President Sisi receives a phone call from the President of South Korea

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from President Lee Jae-myung, President of the Republic of South Korea. 

The official spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated that the two presidents exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, where the Korean President expressed his thanks and appreciation to Mr. President for receiving him. To his special envoy in September 2025, indicating that the meeting was fruitful and resulted in tangible results. 

For his part, Mr. President renewed his congratulations to the Korean President on the occasion of his election as President of the Republic in June 2025, stressing his aspiration to receive him in Cairo as soon as possible, within the framework of strengthening bilateral cooperation and developing relations between the two countries in various fields.

Ambassador Mohamed added Al-Shennawi said that the call also addressed the two presidents’ emphasis on the importance of consolidating the approach to peace at the global level, while praising the efforts made in this context, whether in the Middle East or the Korean Peninsula. In this context, Mr. President reviewed the Egyptian efforts that led to reaching an agreement to stop the war in the Gaza Strip, stressing the necessity of fully implementing the provisions of The agreement. 

For his part, the Korean President expressed his deep appreciation for the role played by Egypt, and for the efforts of Mr. President in settling the regional crises.

The official spokesman stated that the call also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, as the importance of intensifying cooperation to attract more Korean investments to Egypt was stressed, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence and information technology. Communications, shipbuilding and automobile manufacturing, with a focus on localizing these industries within Egypt. Prospects for cooperation in the field of education and higher education were also discussed, including a study of establishing a Korean university in Egypt in partnership with the Egyptian side.

The Korean President indicated that Egypt is the first country to host a Korean cultural center, explaining in this context that two new cultural centers will be opened in Cairo to spread culture. In the same context, the Korean President congratulated Mr. President on the imminent opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, and the two presidents also exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the qualification of the national teams of both countries to the FIFA World Cup tournament scheduled to be held in 2026.
