During the late director Youssef Chahine’s symposium at the El Gouna Film Festival, Egyptian star Yousra recounted her relationship with the late director, and pointed out that Chahine’s influence on the actors was overwhelming and cannot be forgotten.

Yousra said: “Any artist who works with Youssef Chahine is very influenced by him. His influence is so overwhelming that some actors may appear in a way different from their nature, and this is because he had an extraordinary ability to bring out the energies of the people around him.”

Yousra also told a story she collected with Shaheen, and said: “I was living with my aunt and her husband because I didn’t have a home alone. Youssef Shaheen came to the house and said good morning to my aunt and went into my bedroom. My aunt said to me, ‘Who is this?’ I told her, ‘This professor does what he wants.’”

In a joke with her, producer Gabi Khoury said: “Do whatever you want.” Yousra and the audience laughed and said: “Do whatever you want.”

Yousra’s statement sparked widespread controversy on social media, as some followers considered what she said to be inappropriate, while others indicated that Yousra’s method was spontaneous and for the sake of joking. What do you think?
