The chess world is in mourning after a great master died suddenly at the age of 29

The talented American young man in the game of chess, Daniel Naroditsky, who held the title of international grandmaster, died at the age of 29, according to a statement from his family published Monday by the Charlotte Club in North Carolina (eastern United States).

“Daniel was a gifted chess player, an accomplished commentator and teacher, and a valued member of the chess community, who earned the admiration and respect of fans and players around the world,” the statement issued by the Charlotte Chess Center said.

The statement added: “We ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult period. Let us remember him for his passion and love for the game of chess, and for the joy and inspiration he gave us every day.”

The causes of death have not been announced yet.

The American international grandmaster and number two in the world, Hikaru Nakamura, wrote on social media, “I am shocked. “It is a huge loss to the chess world.”

Former Russian world champion Garry Kasparov also offered his condolences and posted on his account on the X platform a picture of himself standing next to Narodetsky when he was a child.

Born in California, Naroditsky, also known as “Danya,” received the title of Grand Master in 2013 at the age of eighteen. He wrote several books about chess, was active on social media and ran a YouTube channel followed by more than 490,000 people.
