The UAE was elected as a member of the Water Council of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation

JEDDAH, 22nd October, 2017 (WAM) – The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, participated in the meetings of the fifth session of the Islamic Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water, which was hosted by the Saudi city of Jeddah today.
The UAE delegation was headed by His Excellency Ahmed Mohammed Al Kaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Electricity, Water and Future Energy Sector.
During the conference, the UAE was elected to membership in the Water Council of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which is concerned with enhancing the implementation of the organization’s vision in the field of water and encouraging technical, research and scientific cooperation among member states.
In his speech, His Excellency Ahmed Al Kaabi affirmed the UAE’s support for the efforts of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in addressing the challenges of the water sector, especially water scarcity, and achieving the sixth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals concerned with ensuring the availability of water, sanitation and sanitation services for all.
His Excellency reviewed the state’s efforts in the field of achieving integrated management of water resources, developing policies related to water resources, the water security strategy, and sectoral strategies related to it, such as energy, food, environment, and climate neutrality strategies.
His Excellency also touched on the country’s initiatives to confront the challenge of water scarcity at the global level, such as the Mohammed bin Zayed Water Initiative, and the ongoing preparations for the UAE to host the United Nations Water Conference 2026.
