Play director "Umm Kulthum"We held auditions with a thousand people

Director Ahmed Fouad revealed the behind-the-scenes preparations for the play “Umm Kulthum,” explaining that they held auditions for nearly a thousand people, before the final choices were made for the actors who participated in the show in its final form.

 

Fouad explained, with the media personality Mona Al-Shazly said that the auditions began over four days inside the theatre, then continued for more than a month in parallel with rehearsals, indicating that they were looking for the spirit of the character and not just the external resemblance, which represented a turning point for him and the writer Medhat El-Adl.

He pointed out that the auditions were conducted in two forms: announced through public invitations, and unannounced within specialized academies such as the Academy of Arts and the Artistic Syndicates. And the Center for Creativity.

He said: “We were looking for the character’s spirit, not the likeness, because the musical game is the most difficult, and requires an actor to sing and live the role at the same time.”

Director Ahmed Fouad added that the auditions showed how rich Egypt is with young talents, as a large number of new faces were discovered, until they finally settled on 18 artists who were good at it. Singing, acting and dancing.

The director of “Umm Kulthum” confirmed: Through performance experiments, they were able to choose actors best suited to the spirit of the character, not his features, explaining that the goal was to present flesh-and-blood characters who would convince the audience and keep them connected to the show until the end.
