Ahmed Fahmy…from the music scenes to screen stardom
Ahmed Fahmy, who was born in Cairo on March 17, 1980, celebrated his birthday a few days ago, crowning his artistic career, which began early, when he joined the Egyptian Conservatory to learn classical music. He was not just a musician, but he had a passion for music since his childhood, and he worked for a long time in the orchestra of the Egyptian Opera. There, he met his close friends from the musical community: Muhammad Nour, Nader Hamdi, and Ahmed Al-Shami, and together they formed the nucleus of the “Wama Band,” after they began performing together in the late nineties.
He met his wife, Amira Farraj, at the opera when she was singing and he was playing the violin. She was 17 years old, and he was 19 years old at the time. They had two children: Omar and Hassan. Starting from playing the violin in Amr Diab’s band, all the way to his dreams, Ahmed Fahmy continued his journey with classical music, then headed with his friends to form a youth singing group, which they called “Wama,” taking the name from the first letters of the members’ names.
The band launched in 1999, with the first song, “Habha Goh Qalbain,” which was inspired by a true story about an artistic relationship and love between the members. In 2003, they released their first official album, entitled “Ya Lail,” and it achieved great success, followed by other albums, such as: “Ya Ghali Alia,” “I’m Going to Come,” and “Once Upon a Time,” before they returned, in 2019, with the album “The Summer Begins.”
Ahmed Fahmy turned to acting, presenting a variety of films and series. The beginning was with the movie “Naama Bay” in 2007, followed by works such as: “Without Censorship,” “Crisis of Honor,” and series such as: “Mama in the Department,” “Brothers,” and “Forced Marriage.”
He also participated in Lebanese-Egyptian dramatic productions, such as the series: “Samra” and “Profa,” and his participation extended to historical and social works, such as: “Al-Haramlik,” “Light Black,” and “The Choice 2.” His latest work is the series “The Novel”, which revolves around a murder within a play, in addition to preparing the play “Mabrouk Jalak Ould”, and the series “Alfredo” with the artist Elham Shaheen.
