Secondary standard laboratory in"Nuclear oversight" Joins the International Advisory Committee on Ionizing Radiation
Abu Dhabi, October 29 / WAM / The Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation has joined the Ionizing Radiation Advisory Committee of the International Committee for Weights and Measures – the international body responsible for setting global standards for measurements in the field of ionizing radiation.
The laboratory is a pivotal part of the dosimetry infrastructure in the UAE, as it calibrates devices used in the fields of health care, industry and the nuclear sector, and contributes to ensuring compliance with radiation protection regulations issued by the Authority, and achieving the highest levels of accuracy in accordance with international standards.
This announcement is a pioneering achievement that makes it the first laboratory in the Arabian Gulf region to obtain this prestigious membership, which reflects international confidence in the technical competence of the laboratory in the UAE and its effective role in developing global standards for measurement.
The secondary standard laboratory for dosimetry continues to lead at the regional level through its chairmanship of the technical committee for ionizing radiation in the Gulf Metrology Organization, and it works to enhance cooperation, unify efforts, and build technical capabilities among measurement institutions in the Gulf countries.
These achievements contribute to enhancing the UAE’s position within the Quality Infrastructure Index for Sustainable Development, which reflects the country’s commitment to these global standards.
It is worth noting that the laboratory, which was officially opened in 2018, provides calibration services for radiation measuring devices, and helps licensed entities in the medical, industrial and nuclear sectors comply with the Authority’s regulations related to the protection of the public, workers and the environment.
