Traffic solutions in 70 locations in Dubai reduce travel time by 40%

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai revealed the implementation of more than 70 rapid traffic solutions, distributed across various regions of the emirate since the beginning of the current year 2025, as part of a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing the flow of traffic on the road network in Dubai, and reducing traffic congestion, which contributes to improving the quality of life for residents and road users, and raising the efficiency of the infrastructure of the road network in the emirate.
The Authority stated to Emirates Today that these implemented traffic solutions and improvements resulted in tangible positive results in reducing travel time in a number of vital locations, as the rates of reducing travel time ranged between 20% and 40% depending on the nature and size of the project, which reflects the effectiveness of the rapid procedures adopted by the Authority in achieving effective results within short periods of time, which contributed to enhancing the efficiency of the traffic network and improving the level of movement and movement in various areas of Dubai.
In detail, Dubai Roads reported that the total number of express traffic solutions expected to be implemented during the current year reaches more than 70 locations in various regions of the emirate, as part of an integrated plan aimed at improving the flow of traffic on the emirate’s road network.
She explained to Emirates Today that the current year witnessed the implementation of a group of improvements that are considered one of the most prominent projects, in terms of traffic impact, including the implementation of an additional lane on Emirates Road towards Sharjah, which contributed to reducing travel time by 25%. The improvements also included the Medical City exit, the development of which contributed to reducing travel time by 20%.
In the Al Warqaa area, the Authority implemented improvements to the entrances and exits, which contributed to reducing the travel time by 40%. It also implemented rapid improvements on Sheikh Zayed Road, represented by developing and improving the exit leading to Al Maidan Street, which led to a 20% reduction in the travel time. In addition, the Authority carried out superficial improvements to the intersection of Al Wasl Street and Al Manara Street, and these works contributed to reducing the travel time by 25%.
Regarding the average time taken to implement traffic solutions, the Authority indicated that the duration of implementing rapid traffic solutions varies from one site to another, as some sites can be completed within a few days if the improvements are simple, while other sites take several months depending on the volume of work and the nature of the solutions required, and the impact of the traffic solutions to be implemented on ground services and existing facilities is reflected in the implementation timetable, according to the nature and size of each site.
As for the criteria that the Authority relies on when determining the sites that need urgent traffic solutions, Dubai Roads explained that it relies on seven technical sources and standards to determine the priorities of the sites, which include “the intensity of traffic congestion, performance indicators from traffic control centers, the importance of the site and the number of affected people, the impact of the site on traffic safety, the frequency of complaints and comments received from the public, the presence of approved road projects under implementation, the cost of implementation and the extent of technical feasibility.” The Authority also relies in determining these sites on the complaints and proposals system, and the results of studies. Traffic impacts, and field team visits to the Authority’s smart electronic resources.
The Authority stressed that the rapid improvements it is implementing represent immediate and effective solutions with a quick impact to address congestion in the short term. However, these efforts complement the strategic projects implemented by the Authority within its future plans, such as projects to develop main roads and mass transit networks and implement sustainable traffic policies that ensure continuity of improvement in the long term.
