A high-ranking UN delegation praises Egypt’s experience in empowering youth during a field visit to the Anfushi Youth Center in Alexandria

A high-level delegation of heads and members of the boards of directors of United Nations agencies operating in Egypt praised the strong partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports in implementing community empowerment programmes, stressing that Egypt represents a leading regional model in enhancing the participation of young men and women in development, and that initiatives such as the Population Clubs and the White Balto are among the most prominent international practices in raising awareness about reproductive health and combating female genital mutilation.
This came during the field visit organized by the delegation to the Anfushi Youth Center in the Anfushi Governorate. Alexandria, as part of the joint visit of the boards of directors of United Nations agencies to Egypt, which includes UNDP – UNFPA – UNOPS – UNICEF – UN-Women – WFP, within the framework of close cooperation between the United Nations system and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Representatives of the United Nations Population Fund and UNICEF participated in the visit, along with a number of leaders of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in the presence of Nanis Al-Naqoury, Head of the Central Administration for Youth Empowerment, Mustafa Ezz Al-Arab, Assistant Minister, and leaders of the Directorate of Youth and Sports in Alexandria. The visit included presenting examples of the activities implemented by the United Nations Population Fund in cooperation with the Ministry in the field of youth empowerment and combating harmful practices against girls.
During the visit, Mustafa Ezz Al-Arab conveyed the message of Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, in which he stressed that cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund represents a successful model of partnership in supporting the issues of youth and girls, and transforming youth centers into open platforms for dialogue, education and positive change.
The Assistant Minister explained that the visit comes in implementation of the Minister’s directives on the need to expand International partnerships in the fields of youth, climate, and gender equality, stressing that the Ministry is working to integrate the outcomes of these projects into the National Strategy for Youth and Sports (2025-2032), in a way that enhances the achievement of sustainable development goals.
This visit is part of a field tour that includes a number of Egyptian governorates, including Damietta, Alexandria, and Cairo, with the aim of reviewing the joint success stories between the Egyptian government and the United Nations system in the areas of youth empowerment, gender equality, and sustainable development.
