“All of Egypt is proud of you.” Mohamed Salah shocks the Egyptians with his decision to leave Liverpool

Egyptian star Mohamed Salah’s announcement of his departure from Liverpool at the end of the current 2025-2026 season, despite his contract continuing until the summer of 2027, sparked a wide wave of interaction in the Egyptian street, amid great anticipation for his next destination.
A sense of pride topped the reactions, as many Egyptians considered that Salah’s career with Liverpool represented a golden era in the history of Egyptian football, after he led his English team to achieve major titles, most notably the Champions League, and other local titles.
Social media users circulated pictures and video clips documenting the player’s journey from his beginnings until his brilliance at Anfield, with comments such as “Thank you, King” and “All of Egypt is proud of you,” in reference to the exceptional position that the player enjoys in the conscience of the Egyptian fans in particular.
Keep an eye out for the future
On the other hand, a wide segment of the fans expressed their sadness over Salah’s departure, and feelings of shock appeared in many comments, especially with the club’s name being associated with the Egyptian star for about nine years.
Despite this, the majority of opinions affirmed their full support for the player’s decision, stressing his right to choose his next step, and wishing him success in the next stage.
Official support and public figures
At the official level, the Egyptian Football Association expressed its great appreciation for Salah’s contributions, affirming its full support for him, and describing him as “an immortal Egyptian legend.”
Businessman Naguib Sawiris also commented on the news, praising the player’s career and considering him “the pride of Egypt,” in a comment that was widely circulated.
The ambiguity of the next destination… and the division of the masses
In light of the uncertainty surrounding the player’s future, after his agent confirmed that the next destination had not been decided, speculation escalated about several possible options, most notably: moving to the Saudi League, which enjoys great financial support and geographic and cultural proximity to Egypt, or experiencing an experience in the American League, with the possibility of playing alongside the Argentine legend, Lionel Messi, or continuing in Europe through the Spanish or French leagues, without specifying the clubs he might play for.
The Egyptian fans were also divided between those who prefer Salah to remain at a high competitive level within Europe, to maintain his artistic luster, and those who believe that moving to the Gulf may be the most appropriate option at this stage of his career.
The most important question remains: Will Mohamed Salah choose to continue in European stadiums, or will he open a new page in a different career?
The answer to this question was unable to be decided by many football stars in Egypt, as the former Egyptian national team coach, Helmy Tolan, confirmed that it is difficult to determine Mohamed Salah’s next destination, especially since the Egyptian star is not very open to the media to know what might be going on in his head.
Toulan told Al-Emarat Al-Youm, “I do not expect Mohamed Salah’s next destination to appear before the end of Egypt’s participation in the World Cup.”
For his part, the former Egyptian star, Ashraf Qassem, said that the departure of Mohamed Salah is a great loss for the English club, before the player himself, after he led the English team to many great successes over the nine years in which he defended the club’s shirt.
He added in televised statements: “I expect Mohamed Salah to play for one of the Saudi clubs next season, given the interest that existed from major clubs in Saudi Arabia in the player from last season.”
For his part, the former Al-Ahly and national team star, Magdy Abdel Ghani, stressed that Mohamed Salah still possesses the technical and physical abilities that make him able to play for two seasons in the largest clubs in Europe, expecting that the “Egyptian Pharaoh’s” destination will be between staying in England or moving to one of the clubs in Spain.
Finally, former Zamalek and national team coach Farouk Jaafar believes that no one can know Mohamed Salah’s next destination except him and his agent.
He said in statements: “I do not expect Mohamed Salah to announce his departure from Liverpool without having studied with his agent his next step. All options regarding Mohamed Salah are wide open, and I expect his next destination to be the Saudi League.”
