The UAE is first in the world in annual growth in the percentage of donors per million people

The Chairman of the National Committee for Donation and Organ Transplantation in the UAE, Dr. Ali Al Obaidli, confirmed that the achievements achieved by the National Program for Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues “Hayat” contribute to consolidating the global position of the UAE in the field of humanitarian medicine, pointing to the vital role that the “Hayat” program plays in enhancing the sustainability of the health system in the Emirates and reducing dependence on external solutions.

This came during a briefing entitled: “Hayat Organ Donation Programme” within the annual meetings of the UAE government 2025, which concluded yesterday (Thursday) in the capital, Abu Dhabi. It included several topics related to the legislative and regulatory aspects of the program, its health effects, and its societal and humanitarian dimensions, in addition to the economic and strategic aspect, and the role of the private sector in supporting the program to achieve its goals.

Dr. Ali Al-Obaidly stated that more than 2,034 organ transplant operations have been performed since the launch of the program, while the number of organ transplant operations performed since the beginning of the year 2024 until now has reached more than 354, and the number of organ donors has reached more than 397 donors.

He explained that organ transplantation operations in the country exceeded 2,034 organs, and more than 10,000 technical and administrative personnel were trained inside and outside the country, while the UAE achieved first place in the world in annual growth in the percentage of donors per million people.

He pointed out that the “Hayat” program provides great paths for the success of the UAE’s trends in the fields of health and disease prevention, as the issuance of the World Health Organization’s recommendations for the year 2024 regarding cooperation between countries on the basis of common interest and solidarity between countries in the field of organ and tissue transplantation opens the door for the UAE to international partnerships in this field by providing its services in the field of training, as well as in providing specialized services to larger numbers of patients around the world.
