A dialogue session with Irish laureate Lynch "Poker" At Sharjah Book Fair

Sharjah, 9 November / WAM / The Sharjah International Book Fair, in its forty-fourth session, hosted the Irish writer Paul Lynch, winner of the International Booker Prize for his famous novel “Profit Song,” in a dialogue session amid the presence of a large audience of fans of world literature and those interested in the book industry.
Lynch said: “When you are a writer in your beginnings and have not read in other worlds, you dream of winning a prize like the Nobel and giving your audience the attention they deserve,” noting that before winning the Booker Prize he published four novels that achieved good sales, but he did not imagine that he would reach the international fame that the award granted him, as his winning novel was translated into about 49 languages, which placed on him a great responsibility towards readers around the world.
He stressed that literature is not entertainment or a presentation of events, but rather a continuous search for human truth, freedom and existence, and that every story carries new possibilities for interpreting life and understanding the alienation and contradictions that shape the human experience, explaining that the reader must feel the deep truth behind the novel and that writing is not just words but a philosophy of life and a complex spiritual experience.
The writer revealed his intellectual experience in writing, noting that he began the novel in December 2018, and was influenced by reading the works of Hermann Hesse, which brought him back to thinking about German history and the consequences of social and political fragmentation on humans and society.
