Today, the 26th session of the General Assembly of , which was held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from November 7 – 11, with the adoption of "Riyadh Declaration on " Which lays the foundations for international cooperation in the global tourism sector for the next fifty years.
The announcement confirms the Kingdom’s pioneering role as a major contributor in shaping the future of the sector, and highlights its position as the capital of major tourism decisions that change the landscape of global, as the Riyadh Declaration plays a pivotal role for the tourism sector in advancing sustainable development plans for the year 2030, focusing on sustainability, digital innovation, integrating artificial intelligence technologies, and promoting the growth of the comprehensive tourism economy.

The declaration represents a joint roadmap that charts the future course of the global tourism sector for the coming years, as it emphasizes developing international cooperation, empowering local communities, and enhancing the sector’s ability to face challenges, setting a unified vision to enhance environmental responsibility in the tourism sector, and consolidating its role as a major engine of economic growth and cultural understanding.
The Minister of Tourism, Ahmed bin Aqeel Al-Khatib: "With the conclusion of this session in Riyadh, we will move from the announcement to the implementation phase, where the agreements we signed and the platforms we launched will contribute to activating investments, developing human resources, promoting digital transformation in small and medium-sized companies, and protecting cultural and environmental treasures. The Kingdom will continue to bring together international partners, benefiting from Riyadh’s hosting of the United Nations Tourism Organization’s regional office for the Middle East, and will work to achieve tangible results so that tourism remains a bridge between nations and an engine for common prosperity."
The Future of Tourism
He added: "By adopting the Riyadh Declaration on the future of tourism, the international community renews its commitment to benefit from the full economic and social potential of tourism, within the framework of the continuous pursuit of achieving sustainable development goals. The adoption of the Riyadh Declaration also reflects the world’s confidence in the Kingdom’s role as an incubator for international dialogue and a center for cooperation between various parties in the sector."
The twenty-sixth session witnessed the approval by representatives of member states of the appointment of Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais as the new Secretary-General of the United Nations Tourism Organization, making her the first woman to lead the organization, and its first Secretary-General from the Arabian Gulf region, and her term will begin on January 1, 2026.
World Tourism
The conclusion of the General Assembly session coincides with the official launch of the (TOURIZ) Forum, which is a global initiative launched by the Kingdom to enhance cooperation between the government and private sectors, And driving innovation in global tourism.
The forum will constitute a platform for leaders of the public and private sectors to work together to promote digital transformation and sustainability, enable impactful qualitative investments, and qualify cadres and the workforce, ensuring the sector’s readiness to face challenges and benefit from future opportunities.
