General President of"Robocop 2025"Robotics and artificial intelligence technologies are a pillar for building a knowledge economy

ABU DHABI, 12 November / WAM / Dr. Hamad Karaki, General President of the Asia Pacific Robotics Cup “RoboCop 2025”, and Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Khalifa University of Science and Technology, confirmed that the “RoboCop 2025” Championship, which the university is hosting as part of the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Week, constitutes a global platform for exchanging knowledge and promoting technological progress, as artificial intelligence and robotics technologies are an essential pillar in building a sustainable knowledge economy.
He said in statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the official opening of “RoboCop 2025” today at the ADNEC Center in Abu Dhabi, that artificial intelligence and robotics technologies are considered the main driver for achieving the “We Are the Emirates 2031 Vision” and the “National Industrial Strategy,” as they represent the cornerstone of building an advanced knowledge economy, and support the country’s direction towards developing government work using artificial intelligence technologies, as well as 100% digitization of operations.
He added that these innovations play an important role in serving vital and strategic sectors, as they are employed in areas such as health care, disaster response, and smart city development. Our efforts in hosting an event such as “RoboCop” are also in line with Abu Dhabi’s vision to be a global center for innovation and technology.
Regarding the university’s organizational efforts for the “RoboCup 2025” Asia Pacific Robotics Championship, he pointed out that Khalifa University led extensive preparations to host this international event through the local organizing committee, through the “Strategic Program for Autonomous Robotics Challenges” initiative, which played a pivotal role in various aspects of the organization, including coordinating volunteers, providing interactive presentations, supporting competitions, and training students.
He stated that the university worked effectively to involve regional and international partners from the academic, industrial and governmental sectors to ensure the success of the event, and also participates in the competitions through its distinguished teams.
He stressed that the event receives great global attention, with the participation of more than 700 competitors and teams from 22 countries, including Singapore, which includes 22 teams, Japan 19 teams, the Russian Federation 18 teams, the People’s Republic of China 10 teams, while the UAE participates with five teams.
He explained that hosting “RoboCop 2025” is closely aligned with Khalifa University’s mission, as it confirms the university’s leading global position in the field of robotics, and contributes to accelerating its efforts to enhance innovation, scientific research, and develop national cadres.
Regarding the initiatives and programs offered by Khalifa University in the field of robotics and smart systems, Dr. Hamad Karaki said that the university has a world-class research and academic infrastructure to support this vital sector, and includes advanced research centers, including the “Khalifa University Center for Robotics and Self-Driving Systems” and the “Center for Innovation and Advanced Research,” in addition to other advanced research centers, facilities, and laboratories.
