Saqr Ghobash praises the United Kingdom’s position in support of the UAE and its condemnation of the brutal Iranian attacks
Istanbul, April 18 / WAM / His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, met with His Excellency Fabian Hamilton, Member of the British House of Commons, Chairman of the British Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, on the sidelines of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Istanbul, the Republic of Turkey.
During the meeting, ways of strengthening parliamentary relations between the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom were discussed. The two sides also praised the depth of the historical bilateral relations that bind the two countries, stressing the need to build on them to enhance parliamentary dialogue on issues of common interest.
During the meeting, the importance of ensuring the security and smooth flow of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz was emphasized, as it is a fundamental pillar for the stability of energy markets and the global economy, while emphasizing the necessity of maintaining the security of sea lanes and rejecting any threats to their safety or obstructing the movement of international trade, and calling for strengthening international efforts to ensure that the Strait remains open and safe for navigation traffic.
His Excellency Fabian Hamilton affirmed the United Kingdom’s solidarity with the UAE regarding the measures it is taking to defend itself, preserve its security and sovereignty, and ensure the safety of its territories and citizens.
For his part, His Excellency Saqr Ghobash praised the United Kingdom’s position in support of the UAE and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and its condemnation of the brutal Iranian attacks, as a violation of international law and a threat to security and stability, stressing the importance of international partnerships in enhancing regional security and supporting efforts aimed at achieving stability and peace in a way that achieves the interests of the peoples of the region and the world.
He stressed that the brutal Iranian aggression that targeted civilians, installations and infrastructure in the UAE and countries of the region represents a violation of the sovereignty of these countries, international laws and norms, and the Charter of the United Nations, and an undermining of regional peace and security.
His Excellency stressed the right of the UAE to take everything that would protect its sovereignty and maintain its security and stability, stressing that the state was not a party to this conflict, and made intensive diplomatic efforts to prevent it from occurring, and worked to give priority to the language of dialogue and peaceful solutions.
He pointed out that the UAE was subjected to attacks with missiles and drones as part of the Iranian terrorist attacks that the region witnessed, stressing that the UAE, with the courage and cohesion of its people, formed an impenetrable bulwark in the face of these treacherous attacks, and a shield to protect its sovereignty, security and stability.
His Excellency stressed that any agreement between the United States and Iran must be based on stable and sustainable foundations, address Iranian threats comprehensively, and put an end to Iran’s hostile behavior, in order to achieve comprehensive, lasting, and just security and stability in the region.
The two sides stressed the importance of cooperation in finding parliamentary positions supportive of regional and international stability and protecting the security of international navigation, stressing the importance of strengthening joint parliamentary work within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which contributes to unifying efforts and coordinating international positions, supporting initiatives aimed at maintaining international peace and security, and addressing the challenges that threaten the stability of the region and vital sea lanes, whether through the emergency item or the work of the permanent committees of the Union.
The two sides stressed the importance of strengthening joint parliamentary cooperation and coordination between the Federal National Council and the British House of Commons, which contributes to strengthening parliamentary communication and dialogue, exchanging best practices and experiences between the two sides, working to exchange visits between parliamentary delegations and friendship committees, and enhancing consultation and exchange of opinions on issues of common interest.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Dr. Marwan Obaid Al Muhairi and Khaled Al Kharji, members of the Federal National Council, Dr. Omar Abdul Rahman Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the Council, Tariq Ahmed Al Marzouqi, Assistant Secretary-General for Council Presidency Affairs, and His Excellency Saeed Thani Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Turkey.
