"Boutros Ghali" Honors the winners of the Foundation’s 2025 Annual Awards

The Kemet Boutros Boutros-Ghali Foundation for Peace and Knowledge organized today, Thursday, its annual ceremony, which is held every year to coincide with the birth of the late Dr. Boutros Boutros-Ghali, former Secretary-General of the United Nations (November 14), in order to honor the winners of the Foundation’s 2025 awards in its seventh session.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdel-Ati, along with A number of former ministers and members of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, and an elite group of public figures, diplomats and representatives.

 

Mamdouh Abbas, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the “Kemmet Boutros Ghali Foundation for Peace and Knowledge”, handed over prizes to the winners from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University, of which the late Dr. Boutros Boutros Ghali is considered — Former Secretary-General of the United Nations and former head of the College’s Department of Political Science — One of its most prominent founding fathers.

 

In the field of African studies, Dr. Dina Osama Al-Sayed Ahmed Lotfy won first place for her thesis entitled “The position of religious institutions on the shift towards authoritarianism.” Dr. Mohamed Abdel Sattar Mohamed Suleiman came in second place for his thesis, “Civil society organizations and their role in building peace in Africa: a case study of Angola and the Democratic Congo.” The third place went to Dr. Noha Mohamed Nadeem Imam for her thesis, “Problems and mechanisms for countries’ recovery after conflicts in Africa: a comparative study.” Omran won first place for his thesis “The Principle of Permanent Objector in Contemporary International Law,” while Dr. Ahmed Abdel Fattah Ahmed Arifen won second place for his thesis “Mechanisms and ways to combat the crime of torture and how to hold its perpetrators accountable within the framework of the provisions of international law.”

 

In the university excellence category, the institution awarded its award to the student Jihad Muhammad Abdel Samie Ahmed; For obtaining first place with a grade of “Excellence with Honors” Department of Political Science, Faculty of Economics and Political Science – Cairo University for the year 2025. Student Anan Ayman Issa Abdel Rahman also received the same award for her academic excellence, as she came in first place with a grade of “Excellence with Honors.” In the same department for the same year.

 

It is noteworthy that the “Kemit Boutros Boutros Ghali Foundation for Peace and Knowledge”, which is headed by Mamdouh Abbas and founded by colleagues and students of the late Dr. Boutros Boutros Ghali, is keen annually to award awards in the fields of peace, knowledge and human rights, in addition to honoring distinguished researchers and students at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science – Cairo University, in commemoration of the name of the late man who gave a lot to the nation and the international community in these fields.
