المملكة: After the success of the operation, the families of the Jamaican twins send a message of thanks to the Kingdom

The specialized medical and surgical team of the Saudi Program for Conjoined Twins was able today to achieve a new medical achievement by successfully separating "Azaria and Azura Elson" In a complex surgical operation.
The operation was performed at King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Children in King Abdulaziz Medical City, affiliated with the Ministry of National Guard in Riyadh, and was shortened to five hours due to the lack of intestinal involvement. The surgical team was also keen to expedite the operation due to the difficult heart condition. .
Conjoined twins
The general supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, head of the medical and surgical team for the Saudi program, explained Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabiah said that the two-year-old Jamaican conjoined twins shared an area under the chest, abdomen and liver, and suspected involvement of the intestines and heart membranes. One of the twins also suffered from major birth defects and weak heart muscle pumping.
He pointed out that the operation was carried out in (6) stages, and a medical team consisting of (25) consultants participated in it. And specialists, nursing and technical staff in the specialties of anesthesia, pediatric surgery and plastic surgery.

He explained that this operation No. (67) is within the Saudi program for conjoined twins, which has been able, in 35 years, to care for (152) twins from (28) countries on (5) continents around the world, confirming the Kingdom’s pioneering role in humanitarian work in general and medical work in particular.
He stated The adoption of November 24 as World Day for Conjoined Twins by the United Nations came at the initiative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This aims to raise awareness about these humanitarian cases, and celebrate achievements in the field of twin separation operations.
