In partnership with the Gulf Police Service and an organization "ASEANAPOL" / "Interior" Organizing the first meeting of the Directors-General of Gulf-Asian Criminal Investigations and Investigations

ABU DHABI, April 17, 2017 (WAM) – The Ministry of Interior, in partnership with the Gulf Police Service and ASEANAPOL, organized the first meeting of the Directors of General Directors of Gulf-Asian Criminal Investigations and Investigations, via video communication technology, as part of the efforts aimed at strengthening the partnership between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the Asian countries in the areas of combating organized and cross-border crimes.

The meeting was attended by Brigadier Saeed bin Tuer Al Suwaidi, Assistant Undersecretary for Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Ahmad, Director General of the Federal Criminal Police, Brigadier Mubarak Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of the Gulf Police Service, Dr. Congresada, Executive Director of ASEANAPOL, Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Al Kaabi, Director of the International Cooperation Department, a number of senior law enforcement officials in the Gulf Police Service and ASEANAPOL, and representatives of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

In an opening speech, Brigadier Saeed bin Tuer Al Suwaidi stressed the importance of this meeting in enhancing joint security cooperation, conveying the greetings of Lieutenant General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, and his wishes for the success of the forum in supporting security work and consolidating strategic partnerships.

He stressed that the accelerating security challenges require intensifying efforts and strengthening joint security coordination and cooperation between our brotherly and friendly countries, especially in the areas of investigations and information exchange, in a way that contributes to raising the efficiency of the security services, stressing the ministry’s commitment to supporting regional and international cooperation to achieve security and stability.

For his part, Brigadier General Mubarak Saeed Al Khaili explained that this meeting comes in light of a world witnessing rapid transformations and a growing development in crime patterns and methods, which imposes on us a double responsibility to develop our tools, enhance our readiness, and intensify joint coordination between our police and security agencies.

He added that we view this meeting as an important strategic platform for exchanging experiences and building more efficient cooperation mechanisms, which contributes to adopting joint coordination processes, forming specialized work teams, and enhancing the exchange of information to confront security challenges. He hopes that the meeting will result in the adoption of practical outcomes and a clear implementation plan that constitutes a road map for future cooperation, noting that protecting societies and enhancing security and stability in them is a shared international responsibility, and our cooperation today is an investment in a safer and more stable future.

For his part, Dr. Congresada reviewed the organization’s role in supporting regional security and stability, as it is the body concerned with strengthening police cooperation between Southeast Asian countries, pointing to its efforts in coordinating joint security work, exchanging information and combating cross-border crimes.

He stressed the importance of this meeting in consolidating international cooperation and developing unified working mechanisms between police agencies, which contributes to confronting various forms of crime and enhancing security and stability in societies and peoples.

In this context, Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Al Kaabi stressed the Ministry of Interior’s keenness to host such international meetings and events, which reflects its commitment to supporting security initiatives that aim to unify visions and paths of joint action, in addition to the vital role of the UAE as a reliable international partner in hosting and organizing important events, and enhancing cooperation with its strategic partners.

The meeting sessions witnessed the exchange of best practices among the participants, and a discussion of the most prominent common security challenges, including cybercrimes, financial crimes, money laundering, online child exploitation, human trafficking, and environmental crimes.

The discussions also addressed ways to develop effective response mechanisms to cross-border crimes, and enhance the rapid exchange of criminal data and information to support the progress of investigations.

The participants stressed the importance of adopting coordination mechanisms and organizing joint international operations, in addition to strengthening training programs and capacity building, which contributes to developing security work and raising readiness to confront growing threats.

The meeting concluded with a set of recommendations and outputs, most notably the formation of specialized work teams to combat common criminal threats and challenges, identifying focal points to deal with electronic crimes, artificial intelligence, financial fraud crimes, online child exploitation crimes, human trafficking crimes, and money laundering crimes, and strengthening police capabilities in confronting criminal challenges and threats by organizing tight coordination processes, in addition to adopting advanced mechanisms for exchanging information, in a way that supports a rapid and effective response to security challenges.

Joint outcomes were also announced that reflect the results of the discussions and contribute to shaping the features of the next phase of Gulf-Asian cooperation in the field of combating crime and enhancing the security of societies.
