Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed witnesses the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the founding of Kind Hospital in Al Ain

Al Ain, April 17 / WAM / His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan witnessed the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the founding of Kind Hospital, which is the first institution to provide modern medical care in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and has contributed for decades in shaping the features of the health care sector in the emirate and the country.

During the ceremony, a presentation was presented highlighting the stages of establishing the hospital, which was initially a mud building that was a guest house donated by the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God have mercy on him,” in 1960 to open a medical clinic under the supervision of American doctor Pat Kennedy and his wife, Dr. Marian Kennedy.

On this occasion, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that the establishment of the first hospital in Al Ain, under the directives of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God rest his soul,” years before the establishment of the Union State, reflects the highest priority given by the founding father to citizen health, out of his belief that investing in people first is the basic foundation for building society and creating the future.

For his part, Dr. Richard Bramble, CEO of Kind Hospital, in his speech, expressed his pride in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan to celebrate 65 years of excellence and giving, stressing that the hospital will remain true to its noble mission of providing health care services to members of society.

The ceremony witnessed the presentation of the first edition of the “Marian Kennedy Award” to Her Excellency Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, in appreciation of her path and pioneering efforts in developing health care policies and enhancing Abu Dhabi’s position as a global destination in the field of public health and medical innovation.

The Pat Kennedy Award was also presented to Professor and Dr. Humaid Obaid bin Harmal Al Shamsi for his achievements in internal medicine, oncology and cancer and his contributions to research into innovative treatments, in recognition of his pivotal role in establishing specialized oncology centers in the region.

The hospital also celebrates, through the “Kind Lifelong Service Award,” the distinguished medical and administrative staff who have spent 35 years serving the hospital and patients with all dedication and sincerity, in appreciation of their continuous giving and their pivotal role in establishing a culture of medical and humanitarian excellence over decades. The hospital also awarded the “Kind Will to Live Award” to a number of patients who have overcome serious health challenges, in a living reflection of the spirit of togetherness and care provided by the medical staff during the treatment journey. To embody the values of hope and patience on which the hospital was founded since its inception 65 years ago.

Kind Hospital continues to fulfill its noble humanitarian mission as it is one of the most important and prestigious medical edifices in the country, providing therapeutic services and health care to the people of the Al Ain region without interruption for more than 6 decades. Today, the hospital extends over an area of ​​26 thousand square meters, and includes a medical staff that includes more than 80 doctors from 44 nationalities from all over the world working in delicate specialties, most notably surgery, pediatrics and neonatology, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, vascular surgery, ophthalmology, and other rare medical fields.

Kind Hospital is the first private medical institution in Abu Dhabi to obtain accreditation by the Joint Commission International, as it is the first hospital in the world to obtain accreditation for clinical care programs for treating respiratory distress syndrome in newborns, and a natural birth program after cesarean section.

Today, the hospital leads the healthcare scene in the Al Ain region by achieving the highest number of births, housing the largest fetal medicine department, and possessing a third-level neonatal intensive care unit.
