Dubai Police arrests a number of teenagers riding modified electric bikes

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, confirmed that traffic patrols caught a number of teenagers riding modified electric bikes at speeds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour on running and walking tracks in the Nad Al Sheba area and other areas of the emirate, in behavior that poses a serious danger to the track users, athletes and pedestrians, and to these young people themselves.
Major General Saif Al Mazrouei explained that electric bicycles intended for hobby or light transportation may not be used on sports tracks, noting that some teenagers intend to modify them to increase their speed, making them more like dangerous motorcycles, which exposes their lives and the lives of others to danger and violates the laws regulating their use.
He added that Dubai Police traffic patrols, in cooperation with partners, carried out intensive field campaigns after receiving complaints from community members about reckless practices carried out by some juveniles. Violators were arrested and legal measures were taken against them, in addition to summoning their guardians to make them aware of the danger of leaving children unsupervised while using these means.
Major General Saif Al Mazrouei revealed that the General Traffic Department seized 101 electric bicycles and issued 130 violations during the past week in various areas of the emirate, as a result of the incorrect use of these bicycles and driving them at high speeds in places not designated for them, stressing that these numbers reflect the seriousness of the phenomenon and the need to intensify oversight and community awareness to reduce it.
He pointed out that the negligence of some parents and their limited follow-up of their children constitutes a great danger that contributes to the spread of such negative behavior, calling on families to assume their educational and awareness-raising responsibilities by directing children to the safe use of electric bicycles, ensuring that they adhere to the places designated for driving, and taking all preventive measures while using these bicycles, such as wearing a helmet and a reflective vest to preserve their safety.
The Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs confirmed that Dubai Police is continuing to implement traffic and field awareness campaigns in residential areas and running and walking paths, in cooperation with strategic partners, with the aim of enhancing the culture of safety, establishing safe behavior in society, and providing a risk-free environment for all road users and athletes.
