Russia welcomes the leadership of Dr. Khaled Al-Anani "UNESCO"…and promises to provide him with full support
Russia welcomed the new leadership of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), stressing its readiness to provide full support for its work, after the member states of UNESCO adopted Dr. Khaled Al-Anani; Director General of the Organization.
The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said – according to the TASS news agency: Russian Today, Friday – “We welcome the choice of the General Conference, and support the path announced by the new Director General of this organization.”
She added that Russia “is ready to provide all possible support to the new leadership in addressing work imbalances, and getting rid of the political issues that he inherited from his predecessor, who added a touch of destruction to UNESCO’s activity, and if not, he distorted this organization with his presence.” According to the Russian spokeswoman.
These statements come in the context of Russia’s efforts to strengthen international cooperation with UNESCO, under a new administration that seeks to overcome politicization and improve the effectiveness of the organization.
