Palestine calls on the world to pressure Israel to bring tents and aid into Gaza in light of the harsh weather conditions

The Palestinian presidency appealed to the countries of the world to put pressure on Israel to expedite the introduction of prefabricated homes and tents into the Gaza Strip, in order to confront the harsh weather conditions that endanger the lives of citizens, as the remaining dilapidated and torn tents in Gaza do not prevent rain from entering and do not provide protection for citizens.

The Palestinian presidency, according to what the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa) reported today, Saturday, called for the lifting of Israeli restrictions and obstacles that prevent The Palestinian government decided to bring mobile homes, tents, and shelter equipment into the Gaza Strip, to confront the difficult humanitarian situation that exposes the lives of children, women, and the elderly to grave risks.

The head of the Palestinian National Council, Rawhi Fattouh, said in a statement: "What the displaced people in the Gaza Strip are exposed to as a result of the harsh weather conditions constitutes a complex humanitarian disaster after the severe storms flooded their tents and forced families, especially children, women, and the elderly, to face cold and rain. Without any shelter to protect them.”

He stressed that the occupation government’s obstinacy in preventing the entry of tents and basic relief materials, including the building materials necessary to strengthen shelter places, represents a blatant violation of the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement, which obligates the occupation to facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid.

He added: “The collapse of the tents and their drowning under the heavy rain revealed the extent of the tragedy that the displaced are experiencing after they became camps.” Afflicted areas are deprived of the most basic necessities of life under a stifling siege that prevents even the arrival of the raw materials needed to confront the difficult climatic conditions,” calling for urgent and immediate humanitarian action to open safe corridors that allow the entry of tents, construction and relief materials without restrictions.

He stressed that the current situation can no longer tolerate waiting, and that the lives of more than two million people are threatened due to the continued siege and the absence of the minimum level of protection in the face of harsh weather.

He also stressed that protecting civilians is important. The Palestinians have a legal and humanitarian duty, and the international community must use its powers and tools to ensure the implementation of the obligations stipulated in international agreements, and pressure to stop policies that exacerbate the suffering of the population in the Gaza Strip.
