A tense session in the trial of Sarah Khalifa… and the absence of witnesses blows up the session

The third session of the trial of Egyptian journalist Sarah Khalifa and 27 others in the “major drugs” case witnessed a tense atmosphere, after the absence of prosecution witnesses despite their official summons, which prompted the court to fine each of them 300 pounds and postpone the session until tomorrow.

Sarah Khalifa appeared inside the cage in a state of confusion and emotion, confirming her innocence before the court, while a member of her family tried to calm her down. The session witnessed extensive demands from the defense, most notably access to the Drug Enforcement Administration’s record book and the vehicle’s movements record book used in the seizure, considering that these documents may reveal essential details about the timing of the raid and the sequence of events.

The defense also requested that the officers in charge of writing the records be summoned, and an investigation be opened into what they described as suspicions of “possible forgery” in the civil status book.

Chemical laboratory reports indicate that the seized materials contain various types of drugs, including derivatives listed in Schedule I, in addition to tools used in manufacturing, which strengthens the accusations against the defendants.

Sarah Khalifa faces charges of trafficking and abuse, as part of a gang that the Ministry of Interior said was importing and manufacturing drugs worth more than 1.2 billion pounds, while the media personality denies all charges against her.
