"Integrated transportation" It launches smart modular vehicles for the first time globally in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 17 November / WAM / The Integrated Transport Center, affiliated with the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi, announced the launch of smart modular vehicles for the first time globally in Abu Dhabi, during its participation in the activities of the “Drift X 2025” exhibition, which was held within the “Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Week”.
Modular vehicles are smart, reconfigurable vehicles that can be connected or separated according to operational need, and were developed by NExT as a new and independent category of vehicles operating on the roads, in a step that represents a qualitative shift in innovative transportation policies at the global level.
This recognition is based on a solid scientific base supported by research and studies published by international institutions in New York and Abu Dhabi, in addition to international awards and field experiments that have proven the ability of this system to improve road efficiency, enhance sustainability, and develop the flexibility of urban transport.
Modular vehicles are characterized by their ability to adapt according to operational demand, by connecting or disconnecting smart units according to the number of passengers or the nature of use, which allows improving the flow of movement and reducing congestion and carbon emissions with high efficiency.
The Integrated Transport Center is leading this transformation in partnership with Emirates Driving Company, Liftango, and Paradigma Innovation Hub, to implement the first trial run of these smart, multi-unit modular vehicles on Yas Island, in a move that paves the way for a new phase of smart transportation in the capital.
In addition to their role in improving road traffic, these vehicles are used as a transitional platform for developing smart operating and remote control systems, as part of the Integrated Transport Center’s initiatives towards the gradual expansion of autonomous driving applications in the future in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Abdullah Hamad Al Ghafli, Acting Director General of the Integrated Transport Center, confirmed that the Center continues to consolidate Abu Dhabi’s position as a global center for innovative mobility technologies through qualitative initiatives that contribute to developing the transport system and enhancing its efficiency and sustainability.
He explained that the adoption of smart standard vehicles represents a strategic step that supports the emirate’s move towards building a more integrated and intelligent transportation system, which reflects Abu Dhabi’s vision of adopting future solutions capable of bringing about a tangible transformation in the transportation sector.
For his part, Antonio Guadagnino, Chief Information Officer at NExT, expressed his pride in cooperating with the Integrated Transport Center, explaining that smart modular vehicles represent a practical solution that can be implemented immediately without the need to build new infrastructure, with a high ability to reduce traffic congestion and improve first- and last-mile services, pointing out that these solutions constitute a direct response to major challenges that will contribute to shaping the future of transportation during the next decade.
