Britain.. Intelligence warns parliamentarians of Chinese espionage attempts

The Internal Intelligence Service warned in (MI5) has protected parliamentarians from Chinese attempts to spy and recruit agents, according to what Secretary of State for Security Dan Jarvis announced on Tuesday, revealing a set of measures to protect lawmakers.

Jarvis said in the House of Commons "Earlier today (Tuesday), the Internal Intelligence Service issued an alert from Espionage operations…to warn them (MPs) about the continued targeting of our democratic institutions by Chinese parties"

This comes after weeks of controversy sparked by the dropping of charges against two men, one of whom worked in the British Parliament, on suspicion of spying for Beijing.

The Labor Government

The Labor government was accused of obstructing their trial to maintain its relations with China, which it strongly denied.

Jarvis said that Chinese agents were seeking to "Recruit and consolidate relationships with individuals who have access to sensitive information about Parliament and the government"

He explained that these attempts may also be targeted "Parliamentary aides, economists, think tank staff, geopolitical advisors and government employees".
