Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi opens the 26th session of the Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival

Sharjah, 19 November / WAM / Sheikh Dr. Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, opened this morning the 26th Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival under the slogan “Siraj” at the Sharjah Art Museum.

Upon his arrival, the Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler toured the corridors and pavilions of the festival, which is organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs in the Department of Culture, and includes a large group of contemporary art exhibitions by male and female artists from various Arab and Islamic countries from all over the world.

Sheikh Dr. Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi listened to detailed explanations from the participants about their artistic works, which varied between architecture, artistic installations, sculptures, decorations, animated models, paintings and manuscripts, which highlighted different visions of modern Islamic arts and their diverse schools in many countries of the world and reflected the festival’s slogan for this year.

During his tour of the festival, the head of the office of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah learned about the different ideas presented by the artists regarding their works, which highlighted their distinguished artistic experiences and the vast imagination they enjoy, which consolidates the festival’s position as a qualitative artistic event in the Arab world and the world, after it restored Islamic arts to its prestigious presence alongside other fine arts.

More than 150 male and female artists from various countries of the world participate in the festival, including researchers, specialists and international artists.

The festival offers 114 events, ranging from specialized art exhibitions, art workshops, and lectures, hosted by the Department of Culture in cooperation with 26 entities in Sharjah, including the House of Wisdom, the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Sharjah, the Arab Photographers Union, the Photography Society, the Emirates Fine Arts Society, and other places in Sharjah.

The activities include 52 exhibitions at the Sharjah Art Museum, the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, the Khor Fakkan Amphitheatre, the Emirates Society for the Art of Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic Ornamentation, and other exhibition venues in the Emirate of Sharjah.

The opening was attended, in addition to the Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler, His Excellency Mohammed Al Murr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mohammed bin Rashid Library, Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture, Aisha Rashid bin Dimas, President of the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority, and a number of officials and artists.
