"Space 42" and"Hesdesat" They pave the way for an Emirati-Spanish space partnership

ABU DHABI, 21st November, 2017 (WAM) – Space 42 announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding today with HesedSat, the Spanish government satellite operator, to explore opportunities for commercial cooperation in the fields of Earth observation and satellite communications.
The memorandum of understanding establishes an integrated framework for cooperation in the areas of exploring and integrating technologies and developing markets within the current and future space assets of both parties, with the aim of enhancing communications solutions and services directed to government, defense and commercial customers, and supporting the development of next-generation satellite services.
Ali Al Hashemi, CEO of Space Services at Space 42, said: “The partnership embodies the company’s pioneering role in promoting international cooperation, and highlights how space technology can contribute to driving economic growth and supporting societal progress. By integrating Space 42’s artificial intelligence-supported satellite infrastructure with HisSat’s expertise in the field of secure communications, the partnership contributes to the development of space services that enhance flexibility and connectivity on a global level.”
For his part, Miguel Angel Garcia Primo, CEO of Hesdesat, said that the memorandum of understanding with Space 42 constitutes a positive step that reflects the company’s continued expansion in the UAE and the Middle East region, explaining that the cooperation confirms the commitment to joint work to develop cooperation between the UAE and Spain, in addition to enhancing the international presence of innovative government capabilities in the field of satellites, to build a safer and more resilient global society.
Under the memorandum of understanding, the two parties will study cooperation opportunities in three main interconnected areas: Earth observation, broadband and narrowband satellite communications.
This partnership comes as an extension of the growing cooperation between the UAE and Spain in the fields of technology, investment and trade, and in the space sector, the two countries are investing in the fields of Earth observation, climate monitoring, and secure communications, with the aim of enhancing flexibility and supporting innovation in the global space economy.
