The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure stresses the importance of strengthening the UAE-Indonesian economic partnership

Jakarta, November 26, 2017 – His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Republic of Indonesia, headed a high-level UAE delegation that visited this country, during which he held high-level meetings with senior Indonesian officials to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields to advance the level of relations to heights that reflect the ambitions of the leadership of the two friendly countries.
During the visit, His Excellency was accompanied by His Excellency Abdullah Salem Al Dhaheri, the UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia, and the Non-Resident Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of East Timor and the ASEAN Association.
At the beginning of the visit, the Emirati-Indonesian Strategic Economic Dialogue was held, co-chaired by His Excellency Suhail Al Mazrouei and His Excellency Rusan Ruslani, Minister of Investment of the Republic of Indonesia and CEO of the Investment Management Agency “Anagata Nusantara (Danantara)”, with wide participation of senior officials in government agencies and the private sector, in addition to an elite group of businessmen from the two countries.
The dialogue discussed the prospects for expanding cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, industrial transformation, and waste management, in addition to discussing investment plans in data centers and infrastructure projects, and reviewing the existing challenges and ways to overcome them in a way that contributes to advancing the course of the economic partnership between the two countries.
His Excellency Suhail Al Mazrouei said that UAE-Indonesian relations continue to achieve rapid growth thanks to the support and vision of the leadership of the two countries, and that the two sides are working to expand areas of cooperation to include new sectors that contribute to creating more diversified and sustainable economic partnerships, stressing that Indonesia possesses great potential, especially in the infrastructure sector, renewable energy and digital transformation.
He added that the UAE believes that investment in these sectors will reflect positively on the future of the partnership between the two countries and serve the economic development goals of both sides, explaining that Indonesia is distinguished by a broad base of young talent, and that enhancing technological support and developing advanced energy solutions will advance the wheel of innovation and achieve sustainable growth during the next stage.
His Excellency stressed that the next phase will witness a greater expansion of the UAE’s investments in Indonesia, especially in sectors related to infrastructure, renewable energy, data centers and human capacity building, which will enhance the two countries’ position as major economic hubs at the regional and global levels.
For his part, His Excellency Rusan Ruslani stressed that the UAE is a strategic and pivotal partner for Indonesia, praising the vital role played by UAE investments in supporting the path of economic development in his country, especially through specific projects such as the Shirata solar power plant and the geothermal energy project in partnership with Pertamina.
He explained that the partnership between the two countries has gone beyond being a traditional economic cooperation to become a model of relations based on mutual trust and a shared vision for sustainable development, adding that the UAE is a reliable partner, and that its investment presence in Indonesia represents a real added value that contributes to enhancing the competitiveness of vital sectors.
He pointed out that the prospects for cooperation are still broad, especially in the alumina processing plant project in West Kalimantan, which he described as “ready for implementation,” stressing the readiness of the Indonesian government to provide everything necessary to facilitate the UAE’s participation in this promising project. He also pointed out that there are great opportunities to deepen cooperation in the fields of waste management and data centers, expressing his confidence that the next stage will witness greater growth in the size and quality of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
During the visit, His Excellency Suhail Al Mazrouei also held a number of high-level bilateral meetings with senior officials in the Indonesian government, which included His Excellency Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, His Excellency Mutia Hafiz, Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs, His Excellency Hashim Djojohadikosumo, Chairman of the Task Force on Housing, and His Excellency Dr. Reza Werakusumah, Chairman of the Indonesian Investment Authority.
During these meetings, they discussed enhancing cooperation in priority areas for the two countries, including energy and renewable energy, infrastructure, digital transformation, housing, ports and food security, in addition to following up on joint projects and exploring new opportunities that help support the economic and development trends of the two countries.
The state delegation included a number of senior officials from government and private agencies in the country, representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Abu Dhabi Ports Group, Mubadala Energy Company, Emirates Global Aluminium, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar”, EDGE Group, Emirates Airlines, First Abu Dhabi Bank, IFCO International Group, Alef Education, and Lulu Group.
