The National Archives and Library showcases its smart initiatives to protect national memory at a conference "Heritage guardians"


Abu Dhabi, January 20 / WAM / During its participation in the “Guardians of Heritage” conference in Fujairah, the National Archives and Library reviewed its pioneering experience in employing artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to serve the national memory and preserve the Emirati cultural heritage.
During his participation in the conference, which brought together an elite group of academics, researchers and specialists in cultural and heritage affairs, he highlighted his most prominent initiatives and innovative projects that combine originality and modern technology, and contribute to reviving the Emirati cultural memory and strengthening the national identity, in line with the country’s trends in digital transformation and anticipating the future of cultural and knowledge work.
During the conference, Mr. Abdul Aziz Al Amim, Head of the Information Technology Department at the National Archives and Library, gave a presentation in which he discussed the stages of technical development witnessed by the institution, and the most prominent projects that rely on artificial intelligence, including smart indexing techniques, automated content analysis, and optical text recognition, in addition to long-term digital preservation solutions that ensure the sustainability of knowledge content and protect it from extinction.
Al-Amim stressed that the National Archives and Library’s reliance on artificial intelligence has significantly contributed to accelerating the process of accessing heritage content, raising the efficiency of its preservation and organization, and making it available to researchers and the public. He pointed out that these technologies represent an essential pillar in protecting the national memory and ensuring its transfer to future generations, while preserving the authenticity of the heritage and its historical value.
He explained that the National Archives and Library continues to attract the latest global technical solutions and adapt them to serve its national mission, and enhance its role as a leading knowledge institution that contributes to supporting scientific research, consolidating cultural identity, and documenting the UAE’s journey and achievements.
The participation of the National Archives and the National Library in the conference came as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance knowledge partnerships and contribute to enriching specialized discussions about the future of heritage in light of digital transformation. Participants in the conference presented in-depth insights and contemporary readings of Emirati heritage, focusing on the importance of employing modern technologies to preserve it, raising the level of community awareness of its cultural value, and enabling cultural institutions to keep pace with accelerating technical changes.
