Of which 4 are Arab… 19 countries are on Trump’s list to reconsider the Green Cards issued to their citizens
The United States will review all green cards issued to people from 19 “concerning” countries at the direction of US President Donald Trump, as the Trump administration intensifies its crackdown on immigration in the wake of the shooting of two National Guard members in Washington.
The 19 countries include Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.
USCIS said in a statement yesterday that when screening immigrants from those 19 countries, the agency will now take into account “country-specific adverse factors,” which include whether the country is able to “issue secure identity documents.”
Since officials identified the suspect in the shooting and wounding of two National Guard members in Washington as Rahmanullah Lakhanwal, an Afghan citizen, the Trump administration has intensified its efforts to restrict immigration.
The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees USCIS, announced Thursday that the administration is also reviewing all asylum applications approved under former President Joe Biden.
“Effective now, the processing of all immigration applications related to Afghan nationals will be paused indefinitely pending further review of security and vetting protocols,” Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement to CNN.
“The Trump administration is also reviewing all asylum claims that were approved under the Biden administration,” she added.
