The UAE achieves 62% of the sustainable development goals according to international standards

Dubai, 4 December / WAM / The UAE has achieved tangible progress in the sustainable development goals, with the achievement rate reaching 62% according to international methodologies, which reflects its firm commitment to developing sustainable policies and its leadership as a global model in speed of implementation and integration between government agencies.

This was announced at a meeting of the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals, which discussed ways to strengthen the national data system supporting development indicators, and the importance of improving data quality and integrating work between government agencies and what they represent as a basic pillar for consolidating the country’s progress on global indicators.

The committee reviewed the latest developments in the preparation of the third voluntary national review report in 2026, and followed up on progress in implementing the national plan for sustainable development data, which aims to develop data collection mechanisms and raise their efficiency in keeping with international best practices.

The National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals held its meeting under the chairmanship of His Excellency Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Assistant Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange, Chairman of the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals, and with the participation of His Excellency Aisha Ahmed Yousef, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Community Empowerment, His Excellency Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman Al-Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector in the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, His Excellency Ahmed Al Nasser, Assistant Undersecretary for the Labor Market Policies Sector and Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Labor Market Services in the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and His Excellency Muhammad Abdul Qadir Al-Wakeel. Acting Assistant for the Strategy and Policy Sector, His Excellency Hanan Mansour Ahli, Director of the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics, Colonel Ali Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, Director of the Strategy and Future Department at the Ministry of Interior, and Engineer Nawal Al Hinai, Director of the Energy and Future Department at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.

The committee stressed the priority of investing in building national capabilities and developing statistical competencies, in addition to expanding cooperation and partnerships with international organizations specialized in methodologies and statistics, in a way that enhances the reliability and accuracy of data and supports the national system for sustainable development in the long term.

Abdullah Lootah stressed that the UAE government is focusing on the importance of enhancing the integration of government efforts and improving the readiness of national data, a fundamental pillar for supporting initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development goals. He pointed out that this trend enables the National Committee to prepare the voluntary national file 2026 in an accurate and comprehensive manner, while continuing to expand cooperation and coordination between the concerned authorities to ensure achieving national goals beyond 2030, and consolidating the UAE’s position as a leading global model in accelerating the implementation of sustainable development goals and enhancing its international presence.

The General Secretariat of the National Committee reviewed the latest developments in preparation for the third voluntary national offer, which the UAE will submit to the United Nations in July 2026, which comes as an extension of the 2018 and 2022 offers.

The members stressed the importance of the presentation reflecting national success stories and the country’s efforts to accelerate the achievement of global goals, and highlighting pioneering experiences and practices that can be generalized at the international level.

The attendees stressed the importance of involving various national sectors and stakeholders in preparing the presentation, ensuring the submission of a comprehensive report that reflects the progress achieved, challenges and future opportunities, and reviewed the latest initiatives and developments in support of the sustainable development goals in various fields, with an emphasis on adopting innovative practices and future solutions to enhance national progress, improve data quality, and support the country’s readiness for the presentation.

Participating parties in the meeting presented their achievements related to sustainable development indicators, including the Ministry of Interior, which provided a detailed presentation of its initiatives, especially in the areas of community safety, digital transformation, and the development of smart services, and the progress achieved in the readiness of data related to the ministry’s indicators.

It is worth noting that the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals follows up on the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, aligns the UAE’s priorities with international goals, and exchanges experiences with partners locally and globally, to expand the circle of active participants in implementing the United Nations agenda for the Sustainable Development Goals.
