"Karachi Gate Station" and"Louis-Dreyfus" They conclude an agreement to develop a facility for handling and storing bulk food goods

Abu Dhabi, 5 December / WAM / Abu Dhabi Ports Group announced that the Karachi Gateway Multi-Purpose Terminal Limited, a subsidiary of Notom Ports, the group’s global maritime operations arm, has signed a long-term commercial agreement with Louis Dreyfus Pakistan Limited, a subsidiary of Louis Dreyfus, the global leader in agricultural commodity trading and processing, under which a facility for handling and storing bulk goods and agricultural commodities will be developed and stored at the Port of Karachi in Pakistan.

According to the terms of the agreement, “Karachi Gateway Multi-Purpose Terminal Limited” will invest in the design and construction of a highly efficient facility for bulk food goods, a handling and transportation system, in addition to the related infrastructure and facilities, necessary to enhance the efficiency of handling and storage operations for dry bulk food goods, in accordance with international best practices.

For its part, Louis Dreyfus Company is committed to providing imports of food commodities and employing new infrastructure as part of its plans to enhance its presence in Pakistan.

The current investment is in addition to the $75 million that Abu Dhabi Ports Group had previously committed to investing during the first phase of the “Karachi Gateway Multi-Purpose Terminal Limited” project.

This cooperation brings together the capabilities of two companies within the portfolio of ADQ, a sovereign investor that focuses on investing in basic infrastructure and global supply networks, in order to strengthen the agricultural supply chain and port logistics system in Pakistan by employing their global expertise and regional capabilities.

The agreement was signed in Abu Dhabi in the presence of Captain Mohammed Juma Al Shamsi, Managing Director and CEO, Abu Dhabi Ports Group, and Michael Guelci, CEO of Louis Dreyfus Company. The agreement was signed by Mohammed Al Tamimi, CEO of Noatum Ports, and Rubens Marques, President of the South and Southeast Asia Region at Louis Dreyfus Company.

The new facility will contribute to improving operational efficiency, reducing the time required to complete handling operations, and improving the flexibility of the agricultural logistics network in Pakistan, in line with food sector safety and operations standards.

By taking advantage of advanced infrastructure, the project will contribute to strengthening trade ties and improving opportunities for wider food provision in the region.

The agreement represents a new achievement added to the series of steps aimed at enhancing intra-trade and developing infrastructure between the UAE and Pakistan.

On this occasion, Muhammad Al-Tamimi said that this long-term cooperation reflects the shared commitment to strengthening the agricultural supply chain and the port logistics system in Pakistan.

He added that the Karachi Gateway Multi-Purpose Station Limited will, under the agreement, design, construct and operate a silo system dedicated to food in order to enhance the efficiency of handling and storage of dry bulk food goods in accordance with international best practices.

He explained that the ‘Karachi Gateway Multi-Purpose Terminal Limited’, as a major regional trade gateway, will play a vital role in improving the connectivity and efficiency of the maritime sector in Pakistan. This development will contribute significantly to the development of the country’s logistics infrastructure, provide new growth opportunities, and consolidate the position of the Port of Karachi as a vital center for international trade.

He said that the agreement with Louis Dreyfus Company represents another strategic achievement within the framework of their bilateral partnership, expressing his aspiration through this partnership to explore future opportunities for cooperation in various markets, and to benefit from joint capabilities to provide world-class solutions that benefit the communities in which we work.

For his part, Robbins Marquez welcomed the cooperation with the ‘Karachi Gateway Multi-Purpose Terminal Limited’ and the intensification of joint efforts with the Abu Dhabi Ports Group in this project, which will bring about qualitative changes in the development and modernization of the infrastructure of the Karachi Port, and support the growth of Pakistan’s agricultural sector.

He explained that this step reflects the long-term commitment to Pakistan, where we have been operating for more than 15 years, and enhances confidence in the growing role of this country in the global agricultural trade sector, pointing out that this facility will constitute a qualitative shift that supports our endeavors to enhance the capabilities of the supply chain for the benefit of trading partners in both Pakistan, the region and beyond.

In addition to the Karachi Gateway Multi-Purpose Terminal Limited, Abu Dhabi Ports Group is developing, operating and managing the Karachi Gateway Limited Container Terminal at the Port of Karachi. Pakistan has a pivotal position in Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s strategy as a major maritime gateway to Central Asia, as the group is developing the Middle Corridor route, which is the land corridor between East and West that connects China with Europe.
