Shakhbut bin Nahyan heads the UAE delegation to the Washington meeting to sign the peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda

At the invitation of US President Donald Trump, Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, headed the UAE delegation participating in the high-level meeting held in the US capital, Washington, which brought together the leadership of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda with the aim of completing the signing of the peace agreement between the two countries.

The UAE’s participation comes as an extension of its growing role in supporting regional stability initiatives and promoting security and development on the African continent, as Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan explained that the peace path between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda is based on the conviction that dialogue is the best path to achieving security and sustainable development.

He pointed out the UAE’s firm keenness to work with international partners to ensure the implementation of the peace agreement in order to put an end to the tensions witnessed in the region.

He also stressed its support for all regional and international endeavors aimed at consolidating the foundations of security and stability on the African continent and the world, and pushing towards sustainable solutions to achieve peoples’ aspirations for development, peace and prosperity.

He praised the progress achieved between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda during the past months, and the constructive participation of both sides and their response to efforts to achieve peace, and considered that it represents a historic opportunity that must be consolidated through clear commitments and effective follow-up mechanisms, in a way that ensures the alleviation of human suffering in areas affected by conflicts.

Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan also welcomed the American efforts to host this meeting, and stressed that joint action and regional and international partnerships, including the pivotal role played by the friendly United States and the sisterly State of Qatar, with the support of the African Union, contribute to enhancing peace and stability on the African continent.
