The Ministry of Higher Education withdraws recognition of qualifications issued by Midocean University in Fujairah

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced the withdrawal of recognition of qualifications issued by Midocean University, which has an office in the Emirate of Fujairah, following the implementation of a joint monitoring visit with the Free Zone Authority in the emirate, which revealed fundamental violations related to operating mechanisms, controls for providing academic programs, and the extent of the institution’s commitment to approved national controls and standards.
The Ministry indicated that the institution’s executive office in the Emirate of Fujairah provides registration services, implements educational programs without obtaining the accreditation required by the Ministry, and engages in educational activities that do not comply with the legislation regulating the work of higher education institutions, and do not meet institutional governance requirements or accreditation and quality requirements, including providing academic programs electronically, without a clear mechanism to ensure quality, and the presence of a large discrepancy in data on student numbers and programs, compared to what was monitored in the field.
Based on the observations, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research implemented a comprehensive verification and technical evaluation process. With the aim of ensuring that the institution adheres to the approved national requirements and standards, and based on the results, it was decided to withdraw recognition of the qualifications issued by the university, change the university’s status on the Ministry’s approved recognition lists to “not accredited”, and change the result of recognition of the qualifications issued by it, in accordance with the approved regulatory procedures.
This measure comes within the framework of the Ministry’s keenness to protect the interests of students, ensure the reliability of academic qualifications, raise the quality of the higher education system in the country, and ensure that all educational institutions adhere to regulatory standards that ensure the provision of a reliable educational environment, and prevent any unlicensed or misleading educational activities or practices.
The Ministry affirmed its continuation to raise the efficiency of the oversight and governance system, in cooperation with the relevant local and federal authorities, to ensure achieving the highest levels of transparency and compliance, and to protect the interests of students and the academic community in the country.
The Ministry called on students and parents to ensure that educational institutions and academic programs are licensed and accredited before joining them, through the Ministry’s website www.mohesr.gov.ae, or through the Customer Happiness Center at 800511.
