A number of American forces were injured in gunfire in central Syria

Syrian security forces and American forces came under fire near the city of Palmyra in the center of the country while carrying out a joint field tour.
On Saturday, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) quoted a security source as saying that the incident resulted in the injury of two members of the Syrian security forces and a number of members of the American forces, while the shooter was killed. No additional information has yet been received about the motives or circumstances of the incident.
He pointed out that traffic on the Deir ez-Zor-Damascus international road was temporarily halted due to the incident, coinciding with intense aircraft flying over the area, pointing out that American helicopters intervened to evacuate the injured to the Al-Tanf base after the shooting incident.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that joint Syrian and American forces blocked the Deir ez-Zor-Damascus road and completely prevented traffic on it, as an emergency security measure.
The Observatory said, in a press statement, that this coincided with an attack on an American delegation while touring Palmyra in central Syria, amid information about injuries among the ranks of Public Security and Americans, some of whom were critically injured.
The Observatory indicated that the delegation left the area quickly, heading towards the Al-Tanf base, in light of a wide security alert and tightening of procedures around the area.
Today, the sky of the city of Palmyra witnessed an intense flight of American warplanes at low altitude, during which the dropping of thermal balloons occurred, coinciding with a state of security alert for Syrian government forces in the region and the sounds of gunfire being heard, according to the Observatory.
