Mohammed Al Sharqi witnesses the closing ceremony of the Fujairah International Calligraphy and Ornamentation Competition and honors the winners

Fujairah, December 13 / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, stressed the importance of celebrating all forms of Islamic arts, reviving them, and attracting and encouraging their creators from various countries of the world.

This came while His Highness attended the closing ceremony of the fourth session of the Fujairah International Calligraphy and Ornamentation Competition.

His Highness pointed to the support and directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, for the culture and arts sector in the emirate, and the necessity of advancing the field of creative industries in all its forms, based on its pivotal role in supporting comprehensive and sustainable development paths in the UAE.

His Highness, the Crown Prince of Fujairah, honored the winners in the competition categories, which are Arabic calligraphy “Muhaqqaq, Nastaliq, Naskh, and Moroccan Mabsoot Calligraphy,” in addition to the Emirates Calligraphers category, the art of calligraphy, and digital calligraphy, in addition to the categories of decoration and miniatures, which constitute an authentic extension of the Islamic visual heritage.

This year’s competition session came to shed light on the literary and philosophical legacy of the Muslim writer and scholar Omar Khayyam, as the calligraphic works were based on Ahmed Rami’s translation of his quatrains, while the decoration and miniatures categories inspired their visual elements from these quatrains to create artistic works that combine poetry, color, and composition.

Dr. Israa Al-Hamal, Director of the School of Calligraphy and Ornamentation in Fujairah, said in her opening speech at the ceremony: The school continues to embody its cultural vision aimed at supporting Islamic arts and empowering a new generation of calligraphers and decorators, within an interactive environment that combines creativity, learning, and reviving heritage.

She added that these initiatives contribute to enhancing cultural dialogue and transferring artistic knowledge to future generations in a way that combines deep roots with the spirit of the times.

She explained that with the expansion of entries year after year, the Fujairah International Calligraphy and Ornamentation Competition consolidates its position as one of the most important global artistic events that links the past with the present, and opens new horizons of brilliance for Islamic arts in the international cultural scene.

The ceremony included visual presentations about the competition, its categories and importance, the number of entries it received, and a lyrical poetry performance with the participation of the Arabic Poetry House in Fujairah, with the competition’s theme “The Hujjat al-Haqq… Omar Khayyam.”

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Director of the Office of His Highness the Crown Prince of Fujairah, and a number of directors, officials and artists.
