Dubai Municipality confirmed that it is closely following the situation with regard to the developments in the weather condition that the Emirate of Dubai and the UAE is currently witnessing, and that all teams are working around the clock to address the effects of the rain, in light of the preparations made by the municipality and the measures it has adopted to deal with the rainy season and fluctuations in weather conditions during the current year.

Dubai Municipality explained that these efforts come within an integrated work system based on raising the efficiency of infrastructure and enhancing the capabilities of emergency teams, to ensure continuity of services, stressing that the safety of individuals and property is of the utmost importance, while following all necessary measures to maintain the flow of movement in various regions of the emirate.

The municipality also confirmed that it had completed a wide package of preventive and technical measures, which included examining and maintaining rainwater drainage networks throughout Dubai, in addition to completing the work of extending above-ground water pumping lines with a total length of 60 kilometers, which enhances the speed of water drainage in a number of locations during periods of rain.

As part of its efforts to increase the network’s capacity, Dubai Municipality has completed the construction of 6 temporary lakes in a number of vital areas, in addition to collection lakes with a total capacity of up to 600,000 cubic metres, which contributes to relieving pressure on the main networks and containing the quantities of collected water efficiently. Pumping lines have also been linked to 10 major water outfalls, including the Dubai Water Canal, Dubai Creek, Al Bahr, and the Deep Tunnel, ensuring safe and rapid water drainage.

As part of operational preparations, the municipality intensified the operations of cleaning rainwater drainage holes, internal filters, and slope lines, in addition to continuing the cleaning of more than 84,000 drainage holes in real estate development areas, in coordination with real estate developers and free zones, to ensure the highest levels of readiness before and during the rainy season.

Dubai Municipality has also activated an integrated emergency system that operates around the clock, including specialized, highly qualified and experienced human cadres, supported by advanced logistical equipment and mechanisms that are among the latest in the world, to deal with water accumulations, emergency blockages, and reports received from various regions of the emirate, in addition to contracting with companies from the private sector to support water withdrawal and transportation operations when needed.

In this context, Engineer Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Head of the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team, Executive Director of the Waste and Sanitation Corporation in Dubai Municipality, and Head of the Rainwater Drainage Team in the Emirate of Dubai, said: “Dubai Municipality works according to an integrated approach in managing the rainy season, which is based on preparedness, raising the efficiency of infrastructure, and enhancing the operational capacity of emergency teams. Our preparations this year included flexible engineering and operational solutions, including the establishment of temporary and collection lakes, expanding pumping networks, and connecting them to multiple outfalls, including It ensures dealing with various weather scenarios, in order to maintain the safety of the community and the continuity of daily life in the emirate.”

Al Marzouqi added: “We emphasize the continuation of direct coordination with government partners concerned with emergency management, to ensure integrated roles, accelerate response, and make immediate decisions according to flexible plans that adapt to developments in the weather situation. We also attach great importance to institutional coordination with strategic partners, real estate developers, and concerned authorities, in addition to implementing training programs and field exercises for site supervisors and technical teams, in a way that enhances the speed of response, accuracy of decision-making, and the ability to deal with emergency reports with high efficiency.”

The municipality’s efforts also included implementing simulation exercises and field training for work teams, to enhance their readiness to deal with various reports related to the rainy situation, and to raise the efficiency of communication with call centers.

Dubai Municipality called on community members to adhere to public safety measures, exercise caution during periods of weather fluctuations, and immediately report any water accumulations or emergency situations through the Dubai Municipality call center at 800900 or through the WhatsApp application, with the need to follow alerts and weather bulletins issued by official authorities in the country.
