An important week.. The Security Council discusses the issues of Myanmar, Sudan and Iran


Holds The International Security Council held a series of meetings and briefings during the period from 22 to 26 December to discuss a number of prominent international issues, including Myanmar and Sudan and the nuclear agreement Iranian, in addition to regional and international security developments.
The Council begins its work today, by holding a closed meeting on the situation in Myanmar, at the request of the Republic of Korea and the United Kingdom, which holds the pen in the file.
The Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Myanmar, Julie Bishop, and the Special Envoy of the President of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to Myanmar, Tan Sri Othman Hashim, will provide two briefings via video communication technology.

The Council is holding an open briefing on Sudan, at the request of the Sudanese government in a letter dated 13 December, and with the support of the "A3 Plus" Which includes Algeria, Sierra Leone, Somalia and Guyana, along with China, Russia and Pakistan.
The briefings are presented by the Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific Affairs in the Departments of Political Affairs, Peacebuilding and Peace Operations, Mohamed Khaled Khiari, and the Director of the Crisis Response Section in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Edem Wosorno, in addition to a representative of civil society.

Discussing the Iranian nuclear agreement

And today, Tuesday, the Security Council will hold an open briefing to discuss the Secretary-General’s report on Implementing the resolution related to the Iranian nuclear agreement (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) at the request of Denmark, France, Greece, the Republic of Korea, Slovenia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Today the Council will also hold an open briefing under the heading "Threats to international peace and security" At the request of Venezuela, which indicated in a letter dated December 17 the escalation of tensions surrounding the country, with the support of China and Russia, Mohamed Khaled Khayari delivers a briefing on behalf of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres. Stability in Somalia, and the Executive Directorate of the Counter-Terrorism Committee, with voting dates to be determined later.
Members continue to negotiate a draft presidential statement, drafted by Slovenia, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in addition to another draft presidential statement on the closure of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq.
The Council continues to follow developments related to the escalation of tensions between Cambodia and Thailand.
