Shamma Bint Mohammed Council for Thought and Knowledge organizes an intellectual evening

Al Ain, April 2, WAM / The Shamma Bint Mohammed Council for Thought and Knowledge organized an intellectual evening, under the patronage and presence of Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, President of the Council, on “Do crises change what we read?”, in the presence of the Council’s female members.
The evening turned into a platform to explore how accelerating global circumstances are reshaping the human relationship with books, and whether reading in times of challenges turns from an intellectual luxury into a vital tool for decoding complex reality.
Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan stressed, during the evening, that a permanent review of reading options is a necessity dictated by the current circumstances, noting that the “Month of Reading” this year came amid pressures and challenges that cast a shadow on the ambitious reading rates, but at the same time opened new horizons for understanding. Crises, despite their cruelty, give the reader a golden opportunity to delve into the political, economic and social analyzes that explain what is going on around him.
She extended thanks and gratitude to the wise leadership of the country, led by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” for the utmost interest he attaches to the security of the nation, and she paid tribute to the brave soldiers of the nation, stressing that this feeling of security is the foundation that gives society the ability to think, create, and read consciously and calmly.
She stressed that building a sober personal opinion in a time of many opinions requires in-depth reading that goes beyond the limits of a single article to include multiple sources. She gave a vital example of the Strait of Hormuz, explaining how in-depth reading during crises reveals the strategic dimensions of this waterway and its fundamental impact on the global economy, which enhances the role of knowledge in forming a comprehensive understanding of the surrounding reality.
Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed raised questions about the type of books we turn to during crises, and do we look for texts that give us reassurance or texts that dissect reality? While the participants unanimously agreed in their interventions that crises have reshaped their tastes, as the search for logical explanations has come to the forefront of their concerns at the expense of escaping into imaginary worlds, while pointing out the fundamental difference between optimistic “utopian literature” and “dystopian literature,” which reflects… Future concerns.
The council members affirmed that the words of the wise leadership and the articles of Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed served as an intellectual safety compass for them, and stressed that conscious reading in times of adversity is not just an entertaining activity, but rather a beacon of knowledge that contributes to spreading balanced and positive thought, and makes the reader an active element and aware of the dimensions of his national security and societal stability.
