US President Donald Trump announced the launch of a new class of warships that will bear his name, an unusual step for a sitting president.

The US President confirmed during a press conference from his residence in Mar-a-Lago in Florida that this ship will be “the largest warship in the history of our country, and the largest warship ever built in the history of the world.”

Pictures of the future ship at sea and during work were displayed on stands around a platform.

Trump estimated that building the first two ships would take “about two and a half years,” stressing that this new class of ships would include 10 ships “soon,” and eventually, 20 to 25 ships.

He explained that these ships will be equipped with cannons and lasers, and that they are capable of carrying hypersonic and nuclear weapons.

Trump said he wanted to personally participate in the design of the new ships “because I’m someone who focuses a lot on aesthetics.”

He pointed out that this new class of ships was designed as a message “to everyone, not just China. We have a very good relationship with China,” which has strengthened and modernized its naval fleet.
