Dubai Press Club organizes a series of workshops with the aim of supporting the building of a new generation of Emirati writers

Dubai, December 23 / WAM / The Dubai Press Club, in cooperation with the Emirati Article Award, organized a series of specialized workshops with the aim of supporting and developing the skills of students and young people in the field of article writing, and enhancing the presence of Emirati talent in this important journalistic art, with the participation of a group of the most prominent writers and editors of Emirati newspapers. The workshops witnessed a remarkable attendance from students and those interested in content creation and analytical writing.
This initiative comes within the framework of the efforts of the Dubai Press Club aimed at contributing an effective role in strengthening the media work system in the UAE, and providing journalistic institutions with qualified Emirati competencies capable of contributing to formulating a media discourse that reflects the country’s vision and keeps pace with its development ambitions.
During the workshops hosted by the Dubai Press Club at its headquarters, Dr. Abdul Khaleq Abdullah, professor of political science and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Emirati Article Award, presented a workshop entitled “The Role of the Sober Article in Shaping Public Opinion,” during which he reviewed the importance of the influential article in reading transformations and creating awareness.
Writer and journalist Ali Obaid Al Hameli also presented a workshop entitled “From Column to Thought,” in which he discussed methods of expression, written identity, and refining journalistic style, while Al Bayan newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Hamid bin Karam, reviewed in a specialized workshop the mechanisms for selecting columnists, the editorial standards that editors-in-chief adopt in evaluating articles, and the writing styles required in the local media market.
The writer and journalist, Mohammed Al Hammadi, participated in a workshop that focused on generating ideas for writing the article based on current events and changes, in addition to practical exercises in which the students and participants participated, and aimed to shed light on how to write an attractive introduction and the skills of reviewing and improving the article.
The editor-in-chief of Emarat Al-Youm newspaper, Ibrahim Shukrallah, presented a workshop that addressed the role of the Emirati article in strengthening national identity, and discussed what the local press needs to discover influential columnists capable of formulating a professional discourse that reflects the values of Emirati society.
On this occasion, Maryam Al Mulla, Director of the Dubai Press Club, expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to the prominent writers and media professionals who contributed to enriching this experience with their ideas, experiences and expertise in the field of journalistic writing and the world of the article, and said: “These workshops come as an important step towards supporting and strengthening the journalistic writing sector in the country. We at the Dubai Press Club, in cooperation with the Emirati Article Award, were keen to provide a knowledge and training environment that contributes to discovering promising talents and building a new generation.” One of the writers who are able to express an effective language and an authentic national vision. In turn, Dr. Abdul Khaleq Abdullah, Professor of Political Science and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Emirati Essay Award, explained that holding a series of specialized workshops in cooperation with the Dubai Press Club constitutes an important milestone in the context of developing essay literature in the Emirates. This workshop is the first of its kind in the context of the emergence and development of the national essay, and seeks to introduce the essay, its types, and its role in creating societal awareness and shaping public opinion regarding contemporary national issues.”
He added: “This series of workshops is directed in particular at young talents, students of media and communication, and those interested in writing newspaper articles and daily columns. The workshop set practical and focused objectives, including how to mature the idea of the article, master its writing, prepare it for publication, and train to produce each of its paragraphs during the workshop in a clear and sound Arabic language. This workshop, the first of its kind, comes in the context of constructive and fruitful cooperation between the Emirati Article Award and the Dubai Press Club, The main institutional supporter of the award.
Widad Kahour, Head of the Media Talent Development Department at the Dubai Press Club, said: “We were keen to design practical workshops that provide participants with direct field experience on how to build an article from idea to publication. We have witnessed great interaction from students and those interested, which confirms the growing need for initiatives that support young Emirati talents and provide them with professional tools to launch into the world of journalism and content creation.”
It is worth noting that the Emirati Essay Award was launched in early 2025, and includes nine branches, each award amounting to 20 thousand dirhams, and includes: the social article, the literary article, the economic article, the political article, the scientific article, the intellectual article, the artistic article, the article for the youth category under 18 years, and the article by the writer residing in the Emirates.
The award requires that the candidate be a citizen or resident of the UAE, and that the article be on a contemporary Emirati topic, that it has originality, creativity, and depth, and that it not be published or submitted for another award. It is also required that the article be written in a sound Arabic language, and that its number of words not be less than 800 words and not more than 1,000 words. The candidate also has the right to submit one text in one branch of the award, and if artificial intelligence technology is used in writing the article, The writer is obligated to clarify this.
