BRUSSELS, 5 JUNE / WAM / Her Excellency Sarah Muhammad Falaknaz, Member of the Federal National Council, participated in the work of the Young Leaders Program of the Munich Security Conference, which was held in the Belgian capital, Brussels, with the participation of an elite group of officials, decision-makers and experts in the fields of security, defence, diplomacy and media from various countries of the world.
Sarah Falaknaz said in her intervention during the sessions that the Young Leaders Program of the Munich Security Conference represents an important international platform that brings together young leaders, decision-makers and experts from various countries of the world to discuss current security and strategic issues, and exchange visions about common global challenges and ways to deal with them, noting that the program included dialogue sessions that addressed the future of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), hybrid threats, media disinformation, artificial intelligence, European security, and the situation in the Sahel region, in addition to The role of parliaments in issues of security, defense, international cooperation, the future of international partnerships and global geoeconomic competition.
She stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy as a tool supporting official diplomacy, and its role in building bridges of trust between countries and enhancing dialogue on strategic and security issues, noting that parliamentary communication contributes to bringing viewpoints closer and enhancing mutual understanding on issues of common interest.
She reviewed the UAE’s experience in building balanced international partnerships based on development, stability and mutual respect, stressing that the country’s approach to international cooperation is based on supporting dialogue and enhancing opportunities for development and prosperity, which contributes to consolidating security and stability at the regional and international levels.
During the discussions, Her Excellency touched on the serious repercussions of the brutal Iranian attacks that targeted the United Arab Emirates, the Gulf states, and Jordan, and the resulting targeting of vital and civilian installations and a threat to the security of maritime navigation and the stability of the region. She stressed that these practices represent a violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy, and undermine international efforts aimed at maintaining regional and international security and stability.
She stressed that any attempts to threaten freedom of navigation or compromise the security of strategic sea lanes, especially the Strait of Hormuz, directly affects global energy security, the safety of international supply chains, and the movement of global trade, which requires strengthening international cooperation to protect sea lanes and ensure the continuity of the flow of global trade and energy.
In the session devoted to discussing artificial intelligence and media disinformation, Her Excellency Sarah Falaknaz stressed the importance of developing legislative and regulatory frameworks that enhance transparency and accountability in the use of modern technologies, and support the responsible use of artificial intelligence, while achieving a balance between confronting misleading information and preserving freedom of expression.
She stressed that contemporary security challenges require adopting a comprehensive concept of security that is not limited to traditional aspects, but extends to include economic, technological, food and water security, in a way that enhances the ability of countries and societies to confront accelerating crises and challenges.
A number of participants stressed the position of the United Arab Emirates as a reliable partner to the international community, especially to European countries, as it has demonstrated a high ability to ensure the stability of energy markets and the continuity of supplies and global supply chains despite the blatant attacks it is directly exposed to, which has strengthened its role as an effective strategic partner in supporting security, stability and sustainable development.
