Saeed and Hamdan were the first children born in the new year in Abu Dhabi

Burjeel Medical City and Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi welcomed the year 2026 with moments of joy and celebration, with the arrival of newborns coinciding with fireworks displays that lit up the sky at midnight. In Burjeel Medical City, the new year began with special joy with the birth of the Emirati child, Saeed Saif Al Rumaithi, at exactly 12:00 a.m., making him the first newborn in the hospital during the year 2026.
Saeed was born to his Emirati parents, Saif Saeed Juma Al-Ahbab Al-Rumaithi and his wife, and he weighed 3.302 kg. This baby is the first child for the family, which made the occasion even more special for them, while the parents expressed their great happiness at receiving their child in the first minutes of the new year. The father chose to name his son after his father as an expression of his love and appreciation, while the mother said that the name embodies the joy associated with starting a new year with the arrival of their child, wishing that the year would be The new one is happy with his birth. Happy that the year 2026 will be full of joy and positivity with his birth.
She added: “We chose the name Saeed because we hope that our child will always be happy, that he will bring joy to our family in the new year, and that he will bear a share of his name.”
Dr. Srividya Venugopal, an obstetrician and gynecologist at Burjeel Medical City in Abu Dhabi, congratulated the family on their new baby, expressing her happiness to participate in this exceptional moment. She said: “Helping a family welcome their baby at the dawn of a new year is a warm and touching experience. We wish the parents and their little child all the best as they begin this beautiful journey together.”
She explained that the arrival of newborns on New Year’s Eve symbolizes hope, joy and new beginnings for families throughout the UAE.
A few minutes later, another baby was born at 12:01 am in Burjeel Hospital Abu Dhabi. He weighed 2,470 kg and was named Hamdan. His parents, Al Hassani and Salma Malala Ali Al Hassani, received him with love and happiness, amid the participation of the hospital staff, who celebrated his birth in conjunction with the New Year’s atmosphere.
His father said: “We are happy that our son was born on New Year’s Day, which is a special day that represents a new beginning that brings optimism and happiness to people all over the world.”
