Egypt signs two memorandums of understanding to supply gas and petroleum products to Syria

Cairo, January 6, 2017 – Egypt today signed two memorandums of understanding to supply natural gas and petroleum products to Syria.
This came during a meeting between the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Karim Badawi, with a Syrian delegation headed by the Syrian Deputy Minister of Energy for Oil Affairs, Ghiyath Diab.
A statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources stated that the first memorandum aims to “cooperate in supplying gas to Syria via Egypt to generate electricity, by exploiting the Egyptian infrastructure, whether gasification ships or gas transportation networks.” As for the second memorandum, it is related to “meeting Syria’s needs for petroleum products.”
The statement explained that the meeting also discussed opportunities for cooperation in rehabilitating the gas and oil infrastructure in Syria, and benefiting from Egyptian expertise in this field.
According to the statement, during the meeting it was confirmed that the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is ready to provide its expertise and technical capabilities to the energy sector in Syria, in a way that supports the Syrian people.
