Sharjah Chamber is looking to enhance cooperation with business communities in Nepal and Sri Lanka

Sharjah, 8 January / WAM / The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation and develop investment partnerships in various vital sectors with business groups in both the Republic of Nepal and the Republic of Sri Lanka, stressing its keenness to open new horizons for the business communities in the emirate with their counterparts abroad in a way that serves common development trends and enhances Sharjah’s position as a global destination for business and investment.
His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, met today at the Chamber’s headquarters with a Nepalese delegation that included His Excellency Tej Bahadur Chhetri, Ambassador of the Republic of Nepal to the country, and Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, in the presence of His Excellency Muhammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadhi, Director General of the Sharjah Chamber, Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director General of the Communication and Business Sector, and a number of officials from both sides.
The meeting discussed investment opportunities with the Nepalese business community in the fields of tourism, information technology, hydroelectric energy and agriculture, in addition to activating the role of the private sector in increasing trade exchange and identifying promising opportunities in various sectors.
His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais stressed that the Emirate of Sharjah, thanks to the wise vision of its leadership, continues a phase of growth that will witness more economic developments that provide more qualitative investment opportunities for international partners. He pointed out the Chamber’s commitment to providing a stimulating business environment that supports the growth of companies wishing to expand from Sharjah, taking advantage of the strategic location of the Emirate and its continuous development in various economic sectors. He called on the Nepali business community to benefit from the global platforms provided by the Expo Center Sharjah, especially specialized exhibitions such as the “ACRES” Real Estate Exhibition. “Steel Fab” and the Middle East Watch and Jewelery Exhibition, stressing that major events and exhibitions represent a vital bridge for direct communication with industrialists, investors, and regional and international companies.
For his part, His Excellency Tej Bahadur Chhetri expressed his appreciation for the pioneering role played by the Sharjah Chamber in supporting bilateral economic relations, pointing out that the presence of a large community of Nepalese citizens residing in the UAE represents a strong foundation for strengthening popular and economic ties, expressing his aspiration to translate these ties into strategic partnerships, especially in the fields of higher education and academic research with the prestigious universities of Sharjah.
The two sides discussed opportunities in priority sectors for investment in Nepal, which included hydroelectric projects and tourism infrastructure development such as cable car projects, in addition to the information technology sector, ready-made garments, and agriculture, especially medicinal and herbal plants. Mr. Chandra Prasad Dhakal expressed interest in establishing Nepali companies in Sharjah, praising the attractive investment environment in the emirate.
The two sides agreed to exchange information regarding participation in trade exhibitions, and the Chamber informed the Nepalese side of the agenda of Expo Sharjah 2026 activities, while the President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry extended an invitation to the Sharjah Chamber to attend the Federation’s annual general assembly meeting in the capital, Kathmandu, scheduled to be held next April.
In a related context, His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais met today with a Sri Lankan diplomatic delegation headed by His Excellency Alexei Gunasekara, Consul General of Sri Lanka, and Subhasini Silva, Head of Mission at the Sri Lankan Consulate.
His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais stressed the importance of the meeting, which comes as a continuation of the strategic milestones witnessed in relations between the UAE and the Republic of Sri Lanka, as the UAE is at the top of the list of Sri Lanka’s trading partners in the region with a volume of trade exchange exceeding one billion dollars. He added that the Chamber is looking forward to exploring the future of cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, food security and logistics services, and welcomes Sri Lankan companies to enhance their presence in regional markets through leading international platforms such as the “Steel Fab” exhibition, the “Watches and Jewelry” exhibition, and other sponsored trade exhibitions. The room.
For his part, His Excellency Alexei Gunasekara expressed his appreciation for the continuous support provided by the Sharjah Chamber, stressing that Sharjah represents a vital gateway for Sri Lankan products to global markets, indicating his keenness to deepen cooperation by coordinating an upcoming visit by the Sri Lankan Minister of Commerce and signing memorandums of understanding that advance relations to broader horizons of economic integration.
The two sides discussed the details of preparing for upcoming economic activities and expected qualitative visits by officials from Sri Lanka, including the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, along with the Sri Lankan Minister of Commerce, and preparations for organizing bilateral business meetings that include representatives of the business community from the two countries.
The Sharjah Chamber invited the Sri Lankan delegation to visit the upcoming editions of specialized exhibitions in the Emirate of Sharjah, while the Consul General of Sri Lanka extended an official invitation to officials of the Chamber and commercial events to visit Sri Lanka to discuss enhancing joint cooperation and developing partnerships that strengthen supply chains and open new horizons in the sectors of textiles, precious stones and other areas of commercial cooperation.
