Emirati-Chinese cooperation to manufacture and export clean energy storage technologies to southern countries
ABU DHABI, 15 JANUARY / WAM / Global South Utilities, a subsidiary of Resources Investments and the primary partner of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026, announced the conclusion of a strategic industrial cooperation partnership with the Chinese company Weiheng, a global manufacturer of battery energy storage systems, with the aim of locally manufacturing advanced clean energy technologies in Abu Dhabi, supporting the UAE’s endeavors in industrial development, transformation in the energy sector, and strengthening supply chains directed to markets. This cooperation reflects a common ambition to go beyond the model of sufficiency in the local market, and to establish Abu Dhabi as a base for manufacturing and exporting to emerging markets.
Under the partnership, Global South Utilities will serve as the regional platform for market access, project integration and downstream implementation, by linking Weiheng’s battery energy storage technologies to utility-scale projects, as well as commercial and industrial projects in Africa and Asia.
The collaboration combines GlobalSouth Utilities’ expertise in developing and deploying clean energy infrastructure in emerging markets with Weiheng’s technical capabilities in the design, manufacture and integration of battery energy storage systems.
WeiHing’s systems allow energy users from the industrial and medium sectors to improve energy efficiency, reduce operational costs, and enhance the efficiency of electrical supplies, in line with Global South Utilities’ focus on providing practical and scalable clean energy solutions in markets in the Global South.
