Under the patronage of Sheikha Fatima…the launch of the “Women Parliamentarians Forum for the Mediterranean Parliament” in Abu Dhabi, January 27

The Federal National Council announced the organization of the second session of the Women Parliamentarians Forum of the Mediterranean Parliament on January 27 and 28 at the Council’s headquarters in the capital, Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates,” President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation.
Speakers of parliaments, parliamentary delegations, and regional and international community organizations from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean region participate in the forum, which is held under the title: “Empowering Women for Cohesive and Inclusive Societies: From the Gulf to the Mediterranean.”
The Forum is chaired by the Second Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council and the current President of the second session of the Forum, Maryam Majid Bin Thaniah, and its agenda includes four main working sessions held over two days.
The first session discusses the topic “Promoting women’s empowerment in the economic and political fields,” followed by the second session, which discusses the topic “The importance of supporting women in the fields of education, health, and environmental sustainability.”
While the third session discusses the topic “The role of women in combating terrorism and preventing and confronting violent extremism,” the forum concludes with the fourth session, which discusses the topic “Sexual violence and gender-based violence linked to terrorism.”
It is noteworthy that the establishment of the Forum for Women Parliamentarians was announced on March 8, 2021, coinciding with International Women’s Day, with the support and active contribution of the Federal National Council. It is held once a year, with the participation of female parliamentarians and policymakers to exchange visions and discuss sustainable solutions to the challenges facing women, support democracy by consolidating women’s rights as an inherent part of human rights, and enhancing communication between male and female parliamentarians from different countries to integrate the gender perspective into public policies.
The Forum seeks to encourage the active participation of women parliamentarians in the work of Parliament, and to ensure their fair representation at all levels of decision-making, in addition to preparing specialized studies and submitting reports and recommendations that contribute to the development of national and regional legislation related to women.
