Diriyah Center for Future Arts opens its fourth major exhibition

Open Diriyah Center for Future Arts, the first center specializing in New Mediain The Middle East and North Africa region, yesterday evening at its headquarters in Diriyah, its fourth major exhibition, “From the Earth: From Terrestrial Technologies to Computational Biology,” was attended by cultural leaders, artists, and media representatives, in addition to individuals from the creative community, within an evening devoted to art, performances, and dialogue.

The exhibition, which is coordinated by curator Irene Papadimitriou, director of exhibitions at the Diriyah Arts Center, continues. The future, until May 16, 2026.

Global participation

The exhibition includes works by more than 30 artists from Saudi Arabia, the region and the world, exploring how our relationship with the natural world is being reshaped in the digital age.

The evening began with a special media tour inside the exhibition, followed by a welcome speech and live discussions that brought together visitors with the participating artists and the curatorial team. The audience also witnessed the presentation of the performance work “One Drop in a Thousand Years”, which is a work that uses water molecules to provide a contemplative visual and audio experience that addresses the fragility of ecosystems and physical interconnectedness.

Dialogue Session

One of the most prominent stations of the opening was the dialogue session “Complex Ecologies”, which brought together participating artists and the curator of the exhibition.

The session discussed the topics of technological innovation, environmental responsibility, and the role of art in addressing Urgent environmental challenges, while emphasizing the importance of thinking about the future of the new relationship and partnership between humans, machines, and the living world.

Ibrahim Al-Senussi, Acting CEO of the Museums Authority, said: “Through the Diriyah Center for Future Arts and exhibitions such as “From the Earth,” the Museums Authority continues to develop cultural institutions that engage with the most pressing issues of our time.

Current challenges

with the consolidation of “With the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s status as a global center for arts and culture, we are committed to providing spaces where artists, researchers, and the public meet to formulate new forms of cultural expression, rooted in our heritage and capable of responding to current challenges.”

The exhibition is organized across four main thematic axes: “Computational Mythical Beings,” “Earth Circuits,” “Extraction Codes,” and “Capture Networks.”

The exhibition addresses how Technology is often presented as a tool for controlling nature, while highlighting the environmental impact of digital systems on a planet with limited resources.

Tangible Earth Materials

The works on display are a reminder that digital technologies rely on tangible earth materials, including physical servers, submarine cables, rare earths, and energy sources.

At the intersections of art, technology, and science, “From the Earth” presents creative approaches to tackling pressing issues, It addresses the structures that govern technical power, and proposes alternative possibilities for rethinking the relationship between technology and ecosystems.

The exhibition is accompanied by an active public program that includes dialogue sessions, applied workshops and masterclasses, and continues until May 2026.
