المملكة: Urgent: Jeddah.. Beginning of improvement works on Camel Square to enhance safety and smooth traffic flow

The Jeddah Governorate Municipality began implementing development works for Obhur Square "Camel" In South Obhur, with the aim of increasing traffic efficiency and enhancing Safety level in one of the city’s vital locations, as part of the initiatives of the Quality of Life Program, one of the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

Addressing traffic congestion

The secretariat explained that the work being implemented comes within "Implementation project Traffic solutions to address traffic congestion in the city of Jeddah"It includes applying traffic engineering solutions and operational regulations that contribute to improving intersections, clear paths, reducing interference, and enhancing the flow of movement on the roads of: King Abdulaziz, the Corniche, Prince Talal bin Mansour, and Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal, which is reflected in raising the level of Traffic service and improving the navigation experience for its users.

The Municipality confirmed that the improvement works include preserving the symbolic components of the site, as the camel statue will be kept in its location as one of the elements of the place’s identity and memory, while development works will be implemented to achieve a balance between traffic safety requirements and improving the urban landscape.

The camel statue in Obhur Square is one of the most prominent artistic monuments that It has characterized the city of Jeddah since 1997 AD, and it was executed by the plastic artist Rabih Al-Akhras. It consists of two camels, one of which is 21 meters high and weighs 10 tons, while the smaller camel is 15 meters high and weighs 7 tons.

These works come within the secretariat’s plan to develop a number of priority sites in the city of Jeddah, and are being implemented according to phased plans, through practical solutions that contribute to improving the movement environment. traffic, increasing the efficiency of movement in the city, and enhancing the quality of life.
