Mohammed bin Zayed University of Human Sciences launches an initiative "Poet of Birq Al Dhafra"

Abu Dhabi, January 20 / WAM / Mohammed bin Zayed University for Human Sciences launched the “Poet of Birq Al Dhafra” initiative, which aims to discover and nurture the poetic talents of young people, and enhance their connection to the Arabic language and the heritage of the UAE, as part of their efforts to consolidate the values of national identity through a series of specialized community cultural programs.
The initiative targets the emerging generation from the age group of 9 to 16 years, and is implemented at the university’s headquarters in the Al Dhafra region through an integrated training program that begins with specialized workshops on the basics of Arabic poetry presented by a group of specialized professors, to introduce participants to the concept of poetry, its meters, lines, and rhetorical images, in addition to practical training in creative writing, the arts of elocution, and the development of imagination, within an educational framework that enhances cultural and national belonging.
This is followed by organizing an open poetry competition in which young people present their creative productions to the public. Then specialized arbitration committees evaluate the entries to determine the winners according to precise artistic and literary standards that include soundness of language, aesthetic style, adherence to meter and rhyme, and quality of delivery, in order to honor them from the bodies organizing and supervising the initiative.
The “Poet of Birq Al Dhafra” initiative comes within the framework of the university’s commitment to supporting emerging talents, and enhancing the presence of the Arabic language and poetry in the awareness of new generations, as they are two basic pillars in preserving and sustaining the Emirati cultural identity.
